Jim Carrey hits back at ‘clone’ claims after fans say he looked ‘unrecognizable’ during awards appearance
Jim Carrey has addressed the viral conspiracy theories suggesting he was "cloned" ahead of his appearance at the 51st César Film Awards.
The 64-year-old actor made his first public appearance since November 2025 at the prestigious Paris event on Thursday (February 26), where he was honored with the César d'Honneur Award for his decades-long contributions to cinema.
Carrey stunned attendees and fans when he arrived at the event sporting longer, shoulder-length hair, paired with a classic tuxedo and a black bowtie.
The new look caused a commotion online, with many users questioning whether it was really the Hollywood icon at all.
One user posted: "Who is this? Because it is definitely not Jim Carrey. The eyes aren’t even the same color. They don’t even care anymore. Thats how you know it’s a wrap."
Another commented: "That is NOT Jim Carrey. And we’re not going to do anything about it," while a third added: "You can’t convince me they didn’t clone Jim Carrey…"
Some even claimed Carrey's transformation was so extreme that they jokingly suggested he now looked like a "Keanu Reeves without a beard".
Cloning Conspiracy and Celebrity Input
The cloning theories gained further traction when drag artist Alexis Stone, a renowned prosthetics professional, posted an AI-generated image of what appeared to be a head mask and a set of false teeth, claiming to be behind Carrey's new look.
While many followers understood the playful nature of the post, others were genuinely confused.
"I can’t handle any more stress right now. I need to know if this is real," a fan exclaimed.
Another joked: "I need video evidence immediately," while a third added: "I’m so f***ing confused with the internet right now."
Carrey Responds To The Rumors
In response to the viral claims, the Yes Man star's agent, Marleah Leslie, issued a firm statement.
"Jim Carrey attended the César Awards, where he accepted his Honorary César Award," Leslie confirmed, per PEOPLE.
Gregory Caulier, the César Awards’ lead delegate, also dismissed the cloning theory and revealed that Carrey had been involved in the award planning process for months.
"Jim Carrey’s visit has been planned since this summer," he told Variety. "From the outset, he was extremely touched by the Academy’s invitation. Eight months of ongoing, constructive discussions."
He added that Carrey had worked hard on his speech in French, showing genuine effort and dedication.
"For me, it’s a non-issue," he continued. "I just remember his generosity, his kindness, his benevolence, his elegance."
At the César Awards, Carrey delivered his acceptance speech in French with a thick American accent.
He expressed gratitude to his family for their support throughout his career and reflected on his roots.
"About 300 years ago, my great-great-great-great-great-grandfather, Marc-François Carré, was born in France, in Saint Malo, before emigrating to Canada," he shared. "Tonight, with this magnificent honour, this square (carré in French) has come full circle."
He attended the ceremony with his daughter Jane, grandson Jackson, and girlfriend Mina.
"Thank you to my wonderful family, my daughter Jane, and my grandson Jackson. I love you now and forever. Thank you to my sublime companion, Mina. I love you, Mina. And finally, thank you to the funniest man I have ever known: my father. Percy Joseph Carrey, who taught me the value of love, generosity, and laughter," he concluded.
After finishing up, he lightened the mood by asking: "So, how was my French? Almost mediocre, right? Forgive me, I didn’t speak French, but I’m just learning it. My tongue is tired."
