Forget wrestling matches - if you want really dramatic twists and turns, follow John Cena and Nikki Bella's relationship. After years of being together, John publicly proposed to Nikki at Wrestlemania. However, one year, they called the wedding off, and announced they were "separating as a couple" on Instagram.

Over the course of Nikki's reality show, Total Bellas, we saw the couple separate, and then try to patch things up. They disagreed on having kids - Nikki wants them, and John doesn't. Or rather, didn't. He changed his mind on the matter, telling Nikki he was willing to get his vasectomy reversed and become a father.

"In a hypothetical universe, say we … have kids, and you find out that wasn’t the real problem, and years from now, you look at me with resentment. I don’t know if you’re upset that you’re not gonna be a mom or you’ve fallen out of love with me, because it kind of feels like both. I wanna marry you and relationships and marriage especially is about sacrifice, and I will make that sacrifice for you. I will give you a child."

However, in the end, Nikki decided that separating was the best decision. During her nearly six year relationship with the wrestler-turned-actor, she felt like she "lost herself". In the emotional season finale of Total Bellas, Nikki explained why she couldn't marry John.

"Even though I was going through depression, I think when you have a relationship in the public eye, it’s like you don’t want to let your fans down. And everyone’s fairy tale was John and I getting married, Superman and Wonder Woman… so you just force yourself to believe it, too, even if you start to feel something different."

Yesterday would have been John and Nikki's sixth anniversary, and they marked the occasion in very different ways. John posted a shade-filled message that seemed to accuse of Nikki of betraying him. He tweeted, "The promises you make mean nothing compared to those you keep." Is the "promise" referring to their vow to get married? Or is this a totally random message that he just happened to post on their anniversary? You be the judge.

On Instagram, Nikki posted a sweet message that was much more direct. The image reads, "You've changed me forever and I'll never forget you." In the caption, she wrote "8/9 6" - 8/9 for the date, and six for their six year anniversary. No ambiguity here!

Is this on-again off-again couple really done for good? It's hard to say. It seems like they still have feelings for each other, based on their social media messages. And if they got back together, that would make for an exciting season of Total Bellas. But if they really are separated for good, maybe they would work out their issues by facing off at the next Wrestlemania.
