The heartbreaking news of Anna "Chickadee" Cardwell's passing earlier this week has left her family, friends, and fans mourning the loss of a beloved reality star who courageously battled cancer.
Anna, best known as the sister of "Honey Boo Boo" Thompson, had been fighting stage four adrenal carcinoma since her diagnosis in January.
Her mother, Mama June Shannon, announced Anna's passing on Instagram, expressing her deep sorrow: "With a breaking heart, we are announcing that @annamarie35 is no longer with us. She passed away in my home last night peacefully at 11:12PM."
Anna, aged 29 at the time of her passing, leaves behind her husband, Eldridge Toney, and two daughters, Kaitlyn, 11, and Kylee, eight. She married Eldridge shortly after her cancer diagnosis, displaying strength and love in the face of adversity.
Eldridge shared his poignant recollection of Anna's final moments, recalling the emotional intensity of the situation to People. "Everyone was crying and freaking out because we all knew what was happening. I did my best to be calm for her. I rubbed my hands through her hair, held her hand, and told her it was going to be OK," he said.
Anna's dying wish was for her daughters to grow up knowing their mother, and Eldridge pledged to honor that wish, ensuring that Anna's memory lives on through them. "I promised I would do right by the girls always. I will spend my life doing right by Anna and the girls," he affirmed.
The day before Anna's passing, she and Eldridge had a heartfelt conversation, bidding their goodbyes as they grappled with the inevitable. Anna's funeral took place in Gordon, Georgia, with her sisters, including Alana "Honey Boo Boo" and Lauryn "Pumpkin" Efird, 23, in attendance.
Outside the service, a sign made it clear that cell phones were not permitted inside, emphasizing the importance of respecting the solemn occasion. During the service, a poignant poem titled "Broken Chain" was read, which included the line: "Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same, but as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again."
Anna's wish for an open casket funeral was honored, and she had expressed her desire for fans to attend, a testament to the special connection she had with her supporters. Additionally, it was reported that the funeral home took her fingerprints for family members who wished to get them tattooed in her honor, providing a lasting tribute to the beloved reality star.
