Margot Robbie has opened up about an insulting alleged encounter with a male co-star who handed her a book on eating less.
The Wuthering Heights actress, 35, has become one of Hollywood's biggest stars in recent years, appearing in a string of blockbuster movies from The Wolf of Wall Street to Barbie.
Despite her many stellar achievements, Margot revealed that even she was not immune to receiving some unsolicited - and pretty rude - comments about her body from a male co-star.
Speaking on Complex's GOAT Talk with singer Charli XCX, Margot brought up the incident when asked what the worst gift she'd ever received was.
She explained: "Very, very early in my career, an actor I worked with, a male actor, gave me a book called ‘Why French Women Don’t Get Fat,’ and it was essentially a book telling you to eat less.
"I was like, 'Woah, f**k you, dude.'"
When Charli asked her if the man in question was still working today, Margot replied: "That was a very [long time ago]. I have no idea where he would even be now.
"This was really back in the day… He essentially gave me a book to let me know that I should lose weight. I was like, ‘Wow.’”
Needless to say, it's never appropriate to comment on a person's weight or body, least of all if they haven't explicitly asked for your advice.
Margot is set to star as Catherine Earnshaw opposite Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights, directed by Saltburn filmmaker Emerald Fennell.
She recently told British Vogue that despite the movie's steamy promo, viewers will be surprised by the content of the film.
She explained: "Everyone’s expecting this to be very, very raunchy. I think people will be surprised.
"Not to say there aren’t sexual elements and that it’s not provocative – it definitely is provocative – but it’s more romantic than provocative.
"This is a big epic romance. It’s just been so long since we’ve had one – maybe The Notebook, also The English Patient. You have to go back decades.
"It’s that feeling when your chest swells or it’s like someone’s punched you in the guts and the air leaves your body. That’s a signature of Emerald’s. Whether it’s titillating or repulsion, her superpower is eliciting a physical response."
