Miley Cyrus has made a huge move after deciding to change her name on social media.
The 33-year-old musician has gone by several memorable names throughout her career, from Miley Stewart and Hannah Montana to her Black Mirror alter ego Ashley O.
But as of Monday (August 31), the pop star appears to have dropped "Cyrus" from her stage name on social media, with her profiles now simply identifying her as "Miley".
The change arrived alongside two new red-and-black images of the 'Flowers' songstress, one of which showed her in full glam and wrapped in a black fur jacket.
She captioned the post simply: “MILEY.”
While the singer has yet to explain the apparent rebrand, fans immediately noticed the change.
"HELLO THE NAME CHANGE," one person wrote. "ONLY MILEY," another added, while a third joked: "She just being Miley."
Fans think a new Miley era is beginning
The apparent name change has fueled speculation that new music may be imminent, especially after Miley signed with Atlantic Records last month following previous releases through Columbia and RCA.
If the Grammy-winning star does have another album on the way, it would mark her 10th studio release and her first since 2025's Something Beautiful.
Although she has yet to announce a release date or officially confirm the project, she previously teased new material during a Q&A with Wonderland Magazine earlier this year.
"This album is a love story, but love stories are never one-dimensional. They’re always layered," she said. "There is definitely a romantic thread weaving through it because, like all my records, it’s a reflection of where I am in my life. But this one feels especially meaningful because this feeling has stayed with me through multiple eras."
She continued: "That’s something I hadn’t really experienced before. A peaceful kind of love has become a theme across my last three records. Not just the love I share with someone else, but the love I’ve found form myself.
"Once your relationship with yourself changes, every relationship around you changes too," the 'Wrecking Ball' artist noted. "I think this record celebrates both of those equally."
Miley recently brought Hannah Montana back
The start of a new era may follow Miley’s decision to begin the year by revisiting one of the most famous chapters of her career.
She returned to the Disney stage as Hannah Montana to celebrate the show's 20th anniversary, performing three songs from the sitcom and movie: 'The Best of Both Worlds,' 'The Climb', and 'This Is the Life'.
The 'Easy Lover' singer revealed that her late godmother, country music legend Dolly Parton, helped inspire her to make the anniversary special happen through the art of manifestation.
"I just started promoting a Hannah Montana 20th-anniversary special that literally did not exist,” she told Variety. "I learned this terrible habit - but I actually think it was good advice - from Dolly. She told me that if you want something to happen, promote it before it exists. Then no one can say no."
Miley paid emotional tribute to Dolly Parton
Miley's social media transformation also comes shortly after the death of Parton, who passed away on August 25.
The pair shared a close relationship, with Miley referring to the country music icon as her "Aunt Dolly" in her tribute post.
"The feeling of losing my Aunt Dolly is beyond what feels right to share. Our most sacred moments were private and they’ll stay there behind the stage, beneath the glamour & between our hearts," she penned.
"What I KNOW is Dolly would want me to feel it, write a song about it, and then continue on and be strong. I have an angel by my side. I always have. One of our last conversations was about music and metamorphosis."
She concluded: "I will always love her and want to make her proud. My heart breaks for the world, her family and friends who will miss her deeply. We’re in this loss together and we will see her in all of the most beautiful things."
Parton had initially become close to Miley's father, Billy Ray Cyrus, after the success of his 1992 hit 'Achy Breaky Heart.' The pair toured together that year, and Billy later asked Parton to become Miley's godmother.
Rumors have since circulated that Parton, who did not have children, left Miley the rights and royalties to her hit 'Jolene'.
However, The Sun reported that no court filings relating to the late icon's will or official plans for her reported $650 million fortune had been made.
