Mom speaks out after daughter was 'left in tears' because of Chappell Roan incident
The mother of an 11-year-old girl who was left upset after an encounter with a security guard originally thought to be linked to singer Chappell Roan has now shared her side of the story.
The situation first came to light after professional soccer player, Jorginho, who has played for both Arsenal and Chelsea in the English Premier League, and is now playing for Flamengo, claimed on social media that a security guard approached his wife, Catherine Harding, and her daughter Ada in what he described as an aggressive way while they were at a hotel in São Paulo, Brazil.
According to him, they hadn’t approached the singer, but had only walked past to see if it was really her.
Harding responds to Chappell Roan incident
In a post shared to Instagram on Sunday (March 22), Harding questioned whether the singer had any involvement, saying: “Did she [Roan] send him to do it? Again, I don’t know.”
She added, “Look, I would like to hope not, but at the same time, I think that you have a responsibility when you are a celebrity to make sure… that the people who work for you and act on your behalf are acting on your behalf.”
She continued to reflect on the situation, saying: “So would he do that if he didn’t have that authority to do so? I don’t know. If he does then obviously that’s a big problem because then he’s representing her in a way she doesn’t want to be represented.”
Harding also defended her daughter, explaining that the child had done nothing wrong. She said: “She literally did not do anything, she just looked at her, she came back and said ‘Mum I don’t know if it’s her.’ Because obviously she looked like her costumes and everything. She looks a little bit different.”
Birthday treat cut short
According to Harding, the situation escalated while they were eating breakfast, when a security guard allegedly told her she should teach her daughter to respect people’s privacy. The incident ultimately led the family to cancel plans to attend the singer’s concert that evening — something that had been intended as a birthday treat.
She said: “I think she’s a very talented artist. I like her a lot. We came all the way to São Paulo to watch the show. It was my daughter’s birthday present, [it’s] a little bit ruined because we didn’t go to the show last night.”
In response, Roan addressed the situation herself, denying any involvement. She stated: “I did not ask the security guard to go up and talk to this mother and child... they did not come up to me... they weren't doing anything.” She also clarified that the guard was not part of her personal team.
The singer added: “It's unfair for security to assume somebody doesn't have good intentions when they have no reason to believe because there's no action even taken.”
Expressing sympathy, she said: “I do not hate people who are fans of my music. I do not hate children. Like, that is crazy. I'm sorry to the mother and child that someone was assuming something... and that if they felt uncomfortable, that makes me really sad.”
