Nicole Kidman has paid an emotional tribute to her mother after she passed away hours before an award ceremony.

Kidman, 57, was honored with the Best Actress award for her performance in Babygirl but left Italy shortly after arriving to be with her family, as reported by Metro.

Sadly her mother, Janelle Anne Kidman, passed away just hours before the actress was set to accept the award at the Venice Film Festival.

Director Halina Reijn, who accepted the award on Kidman’s behalf, read a heartfelt statement from the actress.

"Today, I arrived in Venice to find out shortly after my brave and beautiful mother, Janelle Anne Kidman, had just passed," Kidman wrote. "I’m in shock and I have to go to my family, but this award is for her."

Janelle Kidman was 84 and had spent her career as a nursing instructor in Australia.

In recent years, Nicole had returned to Australia to help care for her mother as her health declined. In her statement, Kidman expressed deep gratitude for her mother’s influence on her life and career.

"She shaped me, she guided me, and she made me. I am beyond grateful that I get to say her name to all of you through Halina," she wrote. "The collision of life and art is heartbreaking. My heart is broken."

Nicole Kidman’s parents, Janelle and her father, Anthony Kidman, were key supporters of her career, often attending major events with her.

Both were present when she won her first and only Oscar in 2003 for her portrayal of Virginia Woolf in The Hours. Anthony Kidman passed away in 2014.

In other Kidman news, her latest Netflix project, The Perfect Couple, has ignited both intrigue and controversy, with cast members describing the show as "perverted."

The 57-year-old Hollywood icon stars in the gripping drama, based on Elin Hilderbrand’s 2018 novel, which explores dark secrets surrounding a wealthy family in Nantucket.

The limited series centers on Amelia Sacks (played by Eve Hewson), who is set to marry into one of Nantucket’s most affluent families, the Winburys, headed by author Greer Garrison Winbury, portrayed by Kidman.

The joyful wedding preparations take a sinister twist when a body is discovered on the beach, leading to a police investigation that reveals disturbing truths about Greer, her husband Tag (Liev Schreiber), and their family.

During the London premiere, Kidman spoke about her experience working on the crime drama, telling Express: "When you talk about acting together ‒ we all worked together to create this."

She praised the team, adding: “It’s underrated, I stepped in to be part of an ensemble. And I’m so grateful for everyone who was there working."

Schreiber also weighed in on the show's dark themes, remarking: "There is a really healthy dose of perversity... Some of the most inappropriate and wonderful choices that I've ever seen a director make."
