‘Peaky Blinders’ star Benjamin Zephaniah has died aged 65

Benjamin Zephaniah, a British writer and poet who also appeared in Peaky Blinders, has sadly passed away aged 65.

As reported by Sky News, Zephaniah was diagnosed with a brain tumor eight weeks ago.

A social media post referred to the poet as "a true pioneer and innovator," who "gave the world so much". It elaborated this his wife "was by his side throughout and was with him when he passed."

The post, cited by Sky News went on: "Through an amazing career including a huge body of poems, literature, music, television and radio, Benjamin leaves with us a joyful and fantastic legacy."

Zephaniah also made appearances on Peaky Blinders as Jeremiah Jesus, starring alongside Cillian Murphy and Tom Hardy.

He was offered the chance of an OBE in 2003, but turned it down, stating: "Benjamin Zephaniah OBE - no way Mr Blair, no way Mrs Queen. I am profoundly anti-empire."
