Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are asking fans to celebrate Archie's birthday with a $5 donation.

The former royals released a statement on their Archewell foundation website on May 6, asking fans to donate $5 for a single dose of Covid-19 vaccine for a vulnerable person on Archie's second birthday.

Harry and Meghan said that they were "deeply touched" by the "warmth and support" they have received on their son's birthday, acknowledging that many of their supporters have already made charitable donations "through the goodness of your hearts".

Per Metro, the statement read: "While we may feel that normalcy is around the corner, we remind ourselves that in much of the world, and especially in developing countries, vaccine distribution has effectively yet to start.

"We will not be able to truly recover until everyone, everywhere, has equal access to the vaccine.

"And with that intention, we are inviting you to contribute whatever you can - if you have the means to do so - to bring vaccines to families in the world's most vulnerable places.

"For a donation of just 5 dollars, you can cover the cost of a dose for someone in need. And because we were able to secure matching support from a number of organizations, that $5 you give will automatically turn into 20 dollars - covering the cost of four doses."

The couple, who tied the knot in 2018, concluded their statement by writing: "We cannot think of a more resonant way to honor our son's birthday.

"If we all show up, with compassion for those we both know and don’t know, we can have a profound impact. Even a small contribution can have a ripple effect. Together, we can uplift, protect, and care for one another."

The Duke and Duchess are currently expecting their second child together - a girl - who is due to be born this summer.

They revealed the baby's gender during their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey in March, where they explained why they decided to step back as senior members of the Royal Family.

The couple's celebration of their son's birthday comes just days after Meghan announced the release of her first children's book, The Bench, which was inspired by Harry and Archie's relationship.
