Sinêad O'Connor tragically passed away aged 56, and the cause of her death has now been revealed.

The news of O'Connor's death came on July 26 after police were called to her London residence after reports of an unresponsive woman - and the singer was pronounced dead at the scene, as reported by Sky News.

The Irish singer converted to Islam in 2018 and adopted the name Shuhada' Sadaqat, as she revealed that following Islam felt like being "home".

The star had an illustrious career, including her rendition of 'Nothing Compares 2 U' becoming the number one single in the world in 1990.

O'Connor's cause of death has been confirmed as natural causes as detailed by Southwark Coroners Court.

Per The Mirror, Southwark Coroners Court said: "This is to confirm that Ms O'Connor died of natural causes. The coroner has therefore ceased their involvement in her death. If an inquest is to be opened, the date of the brief public hearing will be provided on our website."

At the time of her passing, a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: "Police were called at 11:18hrs on Wednesday, 26 July to reports of an unresponsive woman at a residential address in the SE24 area. Officers attended. A 56-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Next of kin have been notified. The death is not being treated as suspicious. A file will be prepared for the Coroner."

The singer also released 10 studio albums throughout her life, with many of her songs being a response to the trauma she suffered growing up.

Speaking with Dr. Phil in 2017, O'Connor opened up about her abusive relationship with her mother and how this impacted her future work.

"She was not well. She was very, very, very not well. I would say she was possessed," O'Connor said. "Although I'm not sure I believe in such things. She ran a torture chamber. It was a torture chamber. She was a person who took delight and smile in hurting you."

Watch the heartbreaking interview below:

The 'Nothing Compares 2 U' star further revealed that her mother used to call her sister "ugly" due to her red hair, so O'Connor shaved her head as she didn't want to be seen as "the pretty daughter".

She further detailed that she had been the victim of rape and molestation, so shaving her head was a way to avoid such traumatic events.

O'Connor's mother died in a car accident when the singer was 19, and during the interview, she revealed that the "best thing" her mother did was "die".

She was no stranger to making big statements throughout her life, including the famous Saturday Night Live appearance where she ripped up an image of Pope John Paul II while uttering the word "evil".

O'Connor, an advocate for abuse victims around the world, was taking a stand against alleged child abuse within the Catholic Church.

She was open about her mental health struggles, as she revealed to Oprah Winfrey that she had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2003 and had had previous suicide attempts.

The singer was admitted to hospital last year after she shared suicidal thoughts online in the wake of her 17-year-old son Shane taking his own life.

Tributes to the star flooded in online from celebrities and fans alike who have all been touched by O'Connor and her work in some way throughout their lives.

Our thoughts are with O'Connor's friends, family, and fans at this time.
