Sofia Vergara has revealed she was rushed to hospital ahead of the Emmys after suffering an unfortunate mishap.

The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards honored the best in American prime time television programming, taking place on Sunday, September 14, at the Peacock Theater in Downtown Los Angeles.

The Modern Family star, 53, had been scheduled to present at this year’s ceremony, alongside other actors including Catherine Zeta-Jones, Sydney Sweeney, Elizabeth Banks, Jesse Williams, Angela Bassett, Jason Bateman, Kristen Bell, Sterling K. Brown, Jennifer Coolidge, Colman Domingo, Tina Fey, Mariska Hargitay, Jude Law, and Sarah Paulson.

However, she had to cancel her appearance at the last minute after she found herself needing to go to the hospital instead.

She shared a video of her on a hospital gurney, as well as one of her having her eye rinsed out with water, along with a photo of her severely inflamed right eye.

Sofia told her Instagram followers: "Didnt make it to the Emmys but made it to the ER. Sorry I had to cancel! Craziest eye allergie right before getting in the car!"

She did not elaborate further on what had caused the dramatic allergy in her eye, which looked red and inflamed.

Fans and friends were quick to flood her comments with well-wishes, with Terry Crews writing: "Oh no! Get well soon!", while Diplo added: "oh no!"

Others added: "Omfg hope you feel better sweetie," and: "ouchhh, hope you recover soon."

Sofia was not the only star who ended up missing Sunday night's event, as Eric Dane was also listed as a presenter but did not appear.

The 52-year-old star, who recently went public with his diagnosis of ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), had been slated to help celebrate the 20th anniversary of Grey’s Anatomy.

However, some of the biggest winners of the night - which was hosted by Grammy-nominated comedian Nate Bargatze - included HBO Max's The Pitt and Apple TV+'s The Studio, which were named the Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Comedy Series, respectively.

Adolescence swept the main category and all the acting prizes in the Limited/Anthology category, with Owen Cooper, 15, becoming the youngest male winner ever in the Supporting Actor category for a Limited or Anthology Series, while Stephen Colbert's The Late Show was named Outstanding Talk Series.

Tramell Tillman also made history as the first Black man to win Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his role in Severance.

The Studio was also a big winner of the evening, becoming the most awarded comedy series in a single Emmys season.

We hope Sofia is feeling a lot better soon!
