Angel Brown, who turned 18 last month, updated his pronouns to “him” on Instagram, marking the important change to his nearly 5,000 followers.

A source told Daily Mail that the move was subtle but deliberate, and needed no flashy announcement.

“There was no big event to mark it. Angel just wanted it to be known what pronouns are now suitable,” they said.

They added that Brown's family is fully on board with their decision. “It’s a decision Angel made, and Mel has been understanding, likewise Eddie,” the insider added.

Angel is the only child from the 50-year-old Spice Girls superstar's brief but fiery 2006 romance with Murphy. Though their relationship ended before Angel was born, and led to a very public paternity dispute, things have since mellowed.

The former couple eventually settled the matter in 2009, and by all accounts, the Coming To America star now has a solid bond with both Mel and Angel.

He even included Angel in a 2018 family Christmas card, surrounded by his nine other children.

Angel splits his time between the UK and Murphy’s home in Beverly Hills, with Mel revealing earlier this year: “Angel is coming over [to Murphy’s house]. They spend time together. They go on holiday together. He has [10] kids and he’s a proper father," per Metro.

The 'Wannabe' hitmaker has openly reflected on how her past trauma and PTSD once made co-parenting difficult, but says that relationship has now “flourished".

To mark Angel’s milestone 18th birthday, the singer-songwriter gushed on Instagram with a heartfelt tribute.

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY ANGEL !!! I cannot believe you're 18. You are so special and so bright and so talented!!" she penned.

"I couldnt be prouder of watching you grow and become the person you are, but you'll forever be my babyyyy," she continued. "I hope you keep chasing your dreams and be kind to everyone around you, like you always have been my Angel. Love you always."

Angel was seen in selfies with Mel, sporting bold lip and nose piercings.

Mel celebrated her own birthday weeks later in Leeds, surrounded by family, including fiancé Rory McPhee and Angel - though fans couldn’t help but notice the absence of fellow Spice Girls Geri Horner and Victoria Beckham.

Despite the 'Spice Up Your Life' singer's global fame, her kids are refreshingly unfazed. “I don't think they care that I'm a Spice Girl,” she joked on The Jennifer Hudson Show.

“‘What kind of music is this Mommy?’ I was like, 'It's Spice Girls music that we wrote.’ They were like, ‘Really?’” she added.

Mel revealed that Angel’s interests are far from the spotlight. He’s into Japanese culture and art, speaks fluent Japanese, and even visited Japan with his girlfriend last year.

“He knows exactly what he wants to do and where he wants to go,” she said.
