The TV personality, 60, was diagnosed with aphasia and frontotemporal dementia in May 2023 and has been living under a guardianship in recent months.

However, fans were left devastated this week after she phoned in and spoke with former radio co-host Charlamagne tha God on Power 105.1's The Breakfast Club about how unhappy she is with her circumstances.

It had previously been claimed that Williams was "cognitively impaired", however, she disputed that claim, telling the host on Thursday, January 16: "I am not cognitively impaired. You know what I'm saying? But I feel like I am in prison.

The 60-year-old added: "I'm in this place where the people are in their 90s and their 80s and their 70s.

"You have to get keys to unlock the door, to press the elevator to go downstairs."

She also claimed that she'd been forced to take medication while in the unnamed facility, adding: "These people here, everybody is like nurses, so to speak, they come in and they give your pills, and then they leave.

"I haven't been to a pill person in a matter of long time... Excuse me, doctor, can you tell me what this pill is for? Excuse me, doctor, understand what I'm saying.

"For the last three years, I have been caught up in the system. This has been three years. I'm caught up in this system."

The star even broke down in tears while discussing the restrictions on her life, claiming that she only has $15 to her name.

In the wake of the harrowing interview, her family set up a GoFundMe to try and raise enough money to get Williams home and in their care.

It states: "A GoFundMe fundraiser is being urgently organized to assist Wendy Williams' family in expediting her return to her rightful home in Florida.

"For far too long, Wendy has faced the challenges of being unjustly placed under guardianship and labeled as incapacitated, despite her strong will and determination to live her life independently.

"Her current situation is not only unfair but also deeply isolating. The guardian assigned to her has severed her connections with friends and family, leaving her without the support network she so desperately needs. This isolation in New York has made it increasingly difficult for her to maintain her strength and resilience."

It continued: "Wendy's family is passionately advocating for her return to Florida, where she can once again be surrounded by the love and support of those who care about her.

"They are suffering emotionally as they witness the toll her isolation is taking on her well-being. Unfortunately, they have exhausted their financial resources in their fight against this unjust guardianship and are in dire need of assistance to secure legal representation.

"Legal services can be prohibitively expensive, and without our support, they may struggle to navigate the complexities of the situation."

The fundraiser has so far raised over $20,000 of its $50,000 target, which will be used to "help speed up Wendy's homecoming and ensure she no longer has to endure the pain of loneliness and disconnection".

The appeal concluded: "It is essential that she is not left to suffer in silence in New York while her family is waiting for her return to the warm embrace of Florida, where she truly belongs. Let’s come together to support Wendy and her family during this critical time!"

During her call with Charlamagne, Williams had refuted claims she was cognitively impaired, asking him: "Do I seem that way, goddamn it?"

She also claimed her cats "are gone", adding: "I have $15. My life is f**ked up. I feel like I’m in prison. I’m definitely isolated. I keep the door closed, I watch TV, listen to the radio and look out the window. Sit here as my life goes by."
