Chris Rock has described Will Smith as the "softest" person "that ever rapped" as he commented on an incident that saw Dave Chappelle get attacked by a man on stage.

Chappelle, 48, was taking part in the Netflix Is a Joke Presents: Dave Chappelle and Friends at the Los Angeles Hollywood Bowl on Tuesday night (May 3) when he was allegedly attacked by 23-year-old Isaiah Lee, who was reportedly carrying a deadly weapon.

The comedian was joined by fellow industry member Rock, 57, at The Comedy Store in Los Angeles on Thursday, two nights after his set was interrupted.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Chappelle addressed the incident at the secret comedy show with Rock, saying: "At least you got smacked by someone of repute! I got smacked by a homeless guy with leaves in his hair."

Rock, who was also at Chappelle's interrupted set on Tuesday, responded: "I got smacked by the softest n**** that ever rapped."

The Everybody Hates Chris creator was referring to the infamous 2022 Academy Awards incident that saw Smith, 53, slap him on stage after he made a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith's closely shaved head.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Chappelle spoke to the suspect after the altercation about what prompted the incident.

The comic told his audience on Thursday that he "needed to talk to him" so he entered the room where Lee was being held by security at the venue.

He revealed that the suspect's grandmother was forced out of her New York neighborhood because of gentrification. Lee said that the reason for the attack was to draw attention to his grandmother's situation.

Lee was detained by security and arrested by Los Angeles police after the attack on Chappelle on Tuesday night. He was said to have had a replica gun equipped with a knife blade and was charged on suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon.

Per Sky News, during a court appearance, Lee pleaded not guilty to four misdemeanor charges - battery, possessing a deadly weapon with intent to assault, unlawfully crossing from a spectator area onto a stage at a theatrical event, and interfering with or delaying such an event with unlawful conduct.

He remains in custody and was also ordered to stay at least 100 yards away from Chappelle as part of a protective order.
