Irish fighting superstar Conor McGregor has described Donald Trump as a "phenomenal President".

The tweet was posted on Monday night in response to Trump announcing that he was sworn into office three years ago. In it, McGregor wrote, "Phenomenal President. Quite possibly the USA [Greatest of All Time]."

"Most certainly one of them anyway, as he sits atop the shoulders of many amazing giants that came before him. No easy feet. Early stages of term also. Incredible."

He added, "Congrats and Happy Martin Luther King Jr. day America."

While announcing that he had been in office for three years, Trump asserted that the African-American unemployment rate was at its lowest ever and that America had its best-ever poverty, youth, and employment numbers.

"It was exactly three years ago today, January 20, 2017, that I was sworn into office," Trump tweeted. "So appropriate that today is also MLK jr DAY. African-American Unemployment is the LOWEST in the history of our Country, by far. Also, best Poverty, Youth, and Employment numbers, ever. Great!"

The Irish fighter's compliment didn't go unnoticed by President Trump either and he subsequently tweeted back, writing, "Congratulations on your big @UFC WIN!"

It's no secret that Donald Trump is a big MMA fan. In fact, he judged the fight between Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz at Madison Square Garden.

However, until now, McGregor was not a known Trump supporter. As per TMZ, the 31-year-old even came to blows with the now-president in 2015 after he criticized Ronda Rousey for refusing to touch gloves with Holly Holm.

Robert De Niro famously does not share McGregor's stance on Trump...

"Donald can shut his big fat mouth," McGregor said at the time ... "I don't give a f*ck about Donald Trump."
