Courteney Cox has opened up about her past use of fillers and why she regrets it now.
On March 7, 2023, the 58-year-old former Friends star discussed her skincare routine and perspective on aging during an episode of the Gloss Angeles Beauty Podcast.
When the co-hosts Kirbie Johnson and Sara Tan asked the actress to name and explain her biggest beauty regret, Cox quickly said that it was fillers.
She said getting the initial treatment created a "domino effect" that compelled her to get more, explaining: "You don’t realize that you look a little off, so then you keep doing more, 'cause you look normal to yourself," as cited by Huffington Post.
Facial fillers are "substances injected into the skin to smooth wrinkles and make them less noticeable," according to the Mayo Clinic.
The Scream actress stated that she wasn’t aware of how she looked with the fillers in, saying: "You look in the mirror and go, 'That looks good.' You think and you don’t realize what it looks like to the outside person."
Looking back now, Cox shared that she regrets "just doing too many fillers and having them removed," and is thankful that she was able to get them dissolved from her face.
She then candidly spoke about a misconception that she used to have about aging, saying: "Thinking that I was getting older when I was really young, that’s just a bummer, a waste of time," adding: "I messed up a lot and now, luckily, I was able to reverse most of that, now I’m actually just older."
Cox also revealed that she had even wanted to upload before and after pictures from her filler treatment with the caption: "Oh, this is what my friend was talking about," - referring to a pal who tried to alert her about overdoing it.
However, she claimed that her publicist was against it, stating: "I look at pictures of me [after having fillers] from when I thought I looked okay, and I can’t believe it."
Back in 2017, the Shining Vale actress revealed to People that she dissolved all the fillers in her face and now embraces "who I am and getting older with what God gave me, not what I was trying to change".
"I kind of own everything. And the things that I am not as comfortable with myself, they’re things that I continue to work on to grow and change. I think I am at a stage of my life where it’s very easy to be comfortable with who I am and who I’ve become and who I strive to be," she shared with the publication.
She also explained to New Beauty that she wants to be as "natural" as she can be, saying: "I feel better because I look like myself. I think that I now look more like the person that I was.
"I hope I do. Things are going to change. Everything's going to drop. I was trying to make it not drop, but that made me look fake," she added.
She even stated her face felt freer without the cosmetic tweaks, adding: "You need movement in your face, especially if you have thin skin like I do. Those aren’t wrinkles - they’re smile lines. I’ve had to learn to embrace movement and realize that fillers are not my friend."
