The husband of Halyna Hutchins, the cinematographer who was accidentally shot and killed by Alec Baldwin with a prop gun has spoken out for the first time since the tragedy.

Horror struck on Thursday, October 21, when Baldwin accidentally discharged a prop firearm on the set of new Western movie Rust, killing a woman and injuring a man.

Per BBC News, the woman has been named as Halyna Hutchins, a 42-year-old director of photography, and the injured man is Joel Souza, the film's director.

Hutchins was transported via helicopter to the University of New Mexico Hospital, but was later pronounced dead, per Deadline.

Souza was taken by ambulance to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center, but has since been discharged, actress Frances Fisher wrote on Twitter.

Taking to Twitter, devastated Matt Hutchins paid tribute to his late wife.

"Halyna inspired us all with her passion and vision, and her legacy is too meaningful to encapsulate in words," he wrote on Friday, October 22.

"Our loss is enormous, and we ask that the media please respect my family’s privacy as we process our grief. We thank everyone for sharing images and stories of her life."

The tweet was paired with an image showing his late wife with their eight-year-old son.

Baldwin also took to Twitter to issue a statement following the horror accident, saying that his "heart is broken".

"There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother, and deeply admired colleague of ours," the actor wrote, per BBC News.

"I'm fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred and I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family. My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna."

According to local news outlet The Santa Fe New Mexican, the 30 Rock star was spotted outside the Santa Fe County sheriff's office on Thursday night.

He was said to be crying and looking visibly distraught while speaking on the phone.

No charges have been filed against Baldwin, a news release sent by the sheriff's office said on Thursday night.

The police added that the investigation remains "open and active" and that "no charges have been filed in regard to the incident" so far.
