Disney has debuted a first-look image of Rachel Zegler in the forthcoming live-action reimagining of Snow White.
As you may have heard by now, Walt Disney's 1937 animated feature fairy tale is being brought back to the big screen as a remake - which is now set to be released in 2025.
Fans on social media were finally given an official glimpse at the movie in a new promotional image which captures the 22-year-old West Side Story actress clad in the princess' iconic blue-and-yellow dress and in what appears to be the seven dwarfs' sunlit cottage.
The dreamy snap also shows Zegler surrounded by all seven of her male companions: Dopey, Grumpy, Sneezy, Bashful, Happy, Sleepy, and Doc.
Check out the first look below:The live-action remake has now joined the long line of animated remakes that Disney released such as Beauty And The Beast, Aladdin, and The Little Mermaid.
But just like the latter, it has already been subject to substantial criticism since casting for the flick was revealed, as trolls felt that the Latina actress shouldn't play the historically white character.
However, Zegler didn't back down from the hateful remarks and even fired back at critics who questioned her casting on social media, writing in a since-deleted tweet: "Yes I am snow white no I am not bleaching my skin for the role."
The upcoming movie also faced immense backlash from Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage - who has a common form of dwarfism known as achondroplasia - after he slammed the studio for remaking the "backward" film that reinforces stereotypes.
During an appearance on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast, the 54-year-old star spoke out about the "hypocrisy" he has seen within the movie industry and used the recent announcement of Zegler's casting as an example.
"Literally no offense to anyone, but I was a little taken aback when they were very proud to cast a Latina actress as Snow White, but you're still telling the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs," the actor said. "Take a step back and look at what you're doing there. It makes no sense to me."
"It makes no sense to me. You’re progressive in one way, but then you’re still making that f***ing backward story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together. What the f*** are you doing, man? Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soapbox? I guess I’m not loud enough," he continued.
He added that he had "all love and respect" for Zegler and "the people who thought they were doing the right thing", but with regards to the movie choice, Dinklage asked: "What are you doing?"
Disney actually responded to Dinklage's complaints of the studio's forthcoming live-action remake, vowing that it's taking "a different approach" to the potentially problematic project.
In a statement provided to Entertainment Weekly, a Disney spokesperson penned: "To avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original animated film, we are taking a different approach with these seven characters and have been consulting with members of the dwarfism community. We look forward to sharing more as the film heads into production after a lengthy development period."
Now, it looks as though the dwarfs in the forthcoming movie are just visual translations of the characters from the 1937 animation, with effective CGI used to highlight their exaggerated traits.
The movie -which launched the first Disney princess - will include new songs from The Greatest Showman’s Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.
Directed by Marc Webb, Snow White will also co-star Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen.
It is now set to release on March 21, 2025 - almost a year after its previous release date, March 22, 2024.
