Drew Barrymore has revealed she is dipping her toe in the dating pool once again, after six years of celibacy following her split from ex-husband Will Kopelman in 2016.

Despite admitting that she loves her own company "too much" at times, Barrymore has been experimenting with dating again recently.

The actress, 47, discussed her current romantic goings-on with guest Whoopi Goldberg, 67, during December 1's episode of The Drew Barrymore Show.

Barrymore asked the Sister Act star if she was currently dating anyone after she too had taken a break from relationships, before confessing: "I am!"

Goldberg enthused that it was "good" for Barrymore to get out there again after her recent sex confessions, as the host joked: "Because it had been so many years, I started to get a little worried. I get too good at being alone."

Her guest reassured her that being alone is "not a bad thing" and added that she could enjoy some "hit and run" dalliances with people if she wasn't ready for a long-term relationship just yet.

Goldberg explained: "Maybe, a hit and run is a better way to go, for now until you say to yourself, ‘Now I really want someone to just be part of this.' Right now that may not be what you're looking for which is probably why you're doing fine."

Barrymore then asked Goldberg: "You don't ever get like itchy to include somebody in the picture?", to which she responded: "For good, no," before joking: "But hit and runs are great!"

She also confirmed that she enjoys the more casual hook-ups "all the time", which left Barrymore squealing at the candid revelation, before crawling over on her knees and hugging her.

Goldberg also joked that people would now make it their mission to work out who she is hittin' and runnin' with, adding: "You can't! You can't figure it out because I made it a point to make sure that that was mine. I didn't want to share it."

She explained: "I don't want it to be part of other people's humor stories about me."

Barrymore had spoken out about her celibacy in October, admitting that it had been hard to get intimate with a new partner since her divorce, especially being a mother of two young children.

She wrote in an essay published on her official blog: “Since entering life as a single mom, I have not been able to have an intimate relationship.

"I have had the honor and a pleasure to actually work on myself and learn what parenting is, something I was not exactly clear on growing up."

The Never Been Kissed actress revealed that she had "engaged with people in grown-up ways since a tender age" while looking for "companionship, validation, excitement, pleasure, hedonism, fun", after growing up without suitable role models to guide her.

She worked through her issues with a therapist who helped her realize that sex does not always equate to love, and to develop a healthy relationship with intimacy.

Barrymore added that she does not judge anyone for their sexual practices, but wishes she had more "chastity and thoughtfulness" when it came to intimate relationships in her past.

"I wish I had been taught by my mother or my father or my friends that there is age appropriateness business and that there is a way to become a classy young woman," she wrote.

"There are things that are fun but also boundaries that can lead to tremendous self-respect. When you are selective and you look at sex as an expression of love and not love itself… well, I’m so glad to be here now in my life," he added.

She admitted that being in a relationship was not currently a "priority" for her, but she would be open to dating when the right time arose.

Barrymore and Kopelman had been married from 2012 until 2016 and the pair share daughters Olive, 10, and Frankie, eight.

She has been married three times in total, having tied the knot with Welsh-born Los Angeles bar owner Jeremy Thomas in 1994 but filed for divorce just two months later, and was also married to comedian Tom Green from 2001 until 2002.
