The treatment of women in the world of Game of Thrones was horrendous, to put it mildly, even if they do rise through the ranks to obtain positions of power. But it turns out some of the female cast members also had issued on-set.

Now, Nathalie Emmanuel has opened up about Emilia Clarke jumping to her defense after there was an "incident" between her and a co-star over her "revealing outfit".

Speaking to Vogue.co.uk, Emmanuel said:

"[Emilia] and I always looked out for each other. If you're the only girls on a male-dominated set, it bonds you in a certain way."

Dare to relive Missandei's final moments:

Nathalie continued: "For example, in my first season, my costume was pretty revealing, and there was an incident with a supporting actor who made a comment about it on set - I mean, typical - and Emilia straightaway had my back."

"It got handled," she said.

In the Vogue interview, Nathalie also took the opportunity to address her character's controversial death. It was slammed not only by fans of the show but by The 13th director Ava Duvernay.

Per the Metro, Duvernay wrote of Missandei's beheading in the final season: "So… the one and only sister on the whole epic, years-long series? That's what you wanna do? Okay."

"It definitely caused me to reflect a lot more - about race and diversity more generally," Nathalie said of her character's death.

"At the end of the day, if there's ever a show on the level of Game of Thrones again, representation has to be part of the conversation from the beginning. That way, there’s no single person who has to represent every other person of color.

However, while Game of Thrones might have consistently hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons after its controversial final season, behind-the-scenes footage did remind us all why we loved the show so much in the first place.

Case in point, this video of Grey Worm singing 'My Boo' to Missandei.
