The cast and crew of Euphoria have paid tribute to late actor Angus Cloud, who sadly passed away at the age of 25.
The entertainment world has been stunned by the sudden death of the young actor, who was best known for his starring role in the HBO series.
It was reported on Monday (July 31) that Cloud was found unresponsive at his family's home in Oakland, with emergency services revealing to NBC News that they were called to the house at around 11:30AM but the "patient was determined to already be deceased" upon arrival.
The actor's grieving family confirmed the devastating news in a statement to TMZ which read: "It is with the heaviest heart that we had to say goodbye to an incredible human today. As an artist, a friend, a brother, and a son, Angus was special to all of us in so many ways."
The statement continued to mention Cloud's recent personal struggles, stating: "Last week he buried his father and intensely struggled with this loss. The only comfort we have is knowing Angus is now reunited with his dad, who was his best friend."
No cause of death has yet been confirmed, however, the statement said Cloud "was open about his battle with mental health" and it is hoped his passing can be "a reminder to others that they are not alone and should not fight this on their own in silence".
The family concluded their statement with a request for privacy: "We hope the world remembers him for his humor, laughter, and love for everyone. We ask for privacy at this time as we are still processing this devastating loss."
The star had minor acting credits in two films, North Hollywood and The Line, and had also appeared in music videos for artists including Becky G, Karol G, and Juice WRLD.
However, he rose to fame after starring as high school drug dealer Fezco O’Neill in the HBO teen drama series Euphoria alongside Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Hunter Schafer, and Jacob Elordi. The role turned him into a breakout star, and his character was expanded in the second season.
Following the shock news, tributes have poured in from the cast of the TV drama as friends and co-stars attempt to come to terms with Cloud's tragic death. One of those co-stars was Javon Walton, who played Fez's partner in crime Ashtray on the show.
The 17-year-old took to his Instagram to share a now poignant image of the pair embracing each other on the red carpet with the caption: "Rest easy brother."
HBO also shared an emotional statement on their social media, which read: "We are incredibly saddened to learn of the passing of Angus Cloud. He was immensely talented and a beloved part of the HBO and Euphoria family. We extend our deepest condolences to his friends and family during this difficult time."
Kathrine Narducci, who played Cloud's on-screen grandmother Marie O’Neill on Euphoria, described him as a "gentle beautiful soul" who "exited [too] soon" on Twitter.
Storm Reid, who plays Zendaya's on-screen younger sister Gia Bennett in the series, posted a clip of Cloud laughing on the show to her Instagram Story, captioning it: "The tears just won’t stop," while Alexa Demie, who plays Maddy Perez, posted a heartbreak emoji on her Instagram Story.
Meanwhile, Zendaya, Sweeney, and Elordi have all remained silent on social media, as fans await their tributes to their late co-star.
While the exact circumstances surrounding his death are yet to be disclosed, the family's statement implies he had struggled to process his father's death.
Cloud's father, Conor Hickey, sadly passed away in Ireland in May. According to the Daily Mail, an obituary written by members of a rugby club with which he was associated claimed he died "after a short illness," without sharing further details.
The actor recently returned to the States from Ireland where the family laid Hickey to rest, and reportedly been staying with relatives in Oakland to try and cope with the grief.
Our thoughts are with Cloud's family, friends, and fans at this time.
