Game of Thrones was undoubtedly one of the most popular shows to ever air on HBO, and it's hard to believe that it's now all over.

However, a lot of fans were left feeling disappointed with the way that season eight turned out, and there were a number of viewers who complained that the finale of the show was rushed, and filled with plot holes and out-of-character moments.

However, Game of Thrones fans who were feeling jaded might be pleased to know that we could well be returning to Westeros very soon. Yes, HBO is apparently planning a prequel series focusing on the rise of the Targaryen family.

According to a report by Deadline, that HBO is close to giving a pilot order to a prequel series, which will be produced by author and Game of Thrones co-executive producer George R.R. Martin and Colony co-creator/exec producer Ryan Condal. The series is allegedly set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones and will be based on the fictional history book, Fire and Blood.

In a post written on his official blog in May, Martin wrote: "We have had five different Game of Thrones successor shows in development at HBO, and three of them are still moving forward nicely."

He continued: "Two other shows remain in the script stage but are edging closer. What are they about? I cannot say. But maybe some of you should pick up a copy of Fire & Blood and come up with your own theories."

However, this isn't the first proposed prequel we've gotten wind of, and plenty of fans have been clamouring for an Arya-based spin-off.
