Nicole Kidman sex clause explained as she had to pause filming movie because she 'didn't want to orgasm any more'
Nicole Kidman has revealed that filming intimate scenes for one particular movie became so intense that she eventually had to ask for a break, admitting she reached a point where she 'didn’t want to orgasm anymore.'
In 2024’s erotic thriller 'Babygirl', the Australian actor features as the influential CEO Romy, who embarks on a passionate affair with her much younger intern, Samuel, portrayed on-screen by Harris Dickinson. The film also stars Antonio Banderas as Romy’s unknowing husband, Jacob.
Too hot to handle
Ahead of the film’s release, the Australian icon opened up about both the emotional and physical intensity of shooting the film’s many steamy sex scenes with Dickinson and Banderas.
Speaking about the experience, she explained that the repeated filming and re-shooting of such moments eventually became overwhelming.
According to The Sun, Kidman said: “There was an enormous amount of sharing and trust and then frustration. It's like, 'Don't touch me.'”
She continued: “There were times when we were shooting where I was like, ‘I don't want to orgasm any more.’
“Don't come near me. I hate doing this. I don't care if I am never touched again in my life! I'm over it.”
Kidman explained that the constant emotional demands of the role began to take a toll during production.
“It was so present all the time for me that it was almost like a burnout,” she said.
Reflecting further on the experience in an interview with Vanity Fair, she admitted: “It left me ragged.”
The film was directed by Halina Reijn, who has said the story was inspired by a real-life account she once heard about a woman who had gone 25 years of marriage without experiencing sexual pleasure, before venturing into the morally ambiguous world of extra-marital activity.
Kidman said the unusual premise was part of what drew her to the project in the first place, explaining she was eager to explore something she hadn’t tackled before in her long acting career.
“I've always been on a quest as an actor, I'm always going, where have I not been? And what can I explore as a human being?” she said.
“And this was an area I'd never been.”
Lights, camera... breath mint?
Kidman has frequently been open about on-screen intimacy, having recently appeared on Las Culturistas podcast, where she shared a behind-the-scenes confession about filming a kissing scene while working with Alexander Skarsgård on the HBO series 'Big Little Lies', revealing she once asked her co-star to stop eating a falafel sandwich before they began canoodling.
Kidman joked that she told him: “I'm meant to be into you and kissing you — put away the falafel now,” highlighting how even small details like food can make filming romantic scenes more challenging than audiences might expect.
