Sienna Miller's team was forced to address rumor she had real sex with co-star in film
Rumors surrounding Sienna Miller and her co-star Hayden Christensen caused a stir during the release of their film, with speculation suggesting their intimate scenes may not have been as staged as first thought.
The blockbuster star, who has been an ever-present figure on our movie theater screens since she made her rambunctious breakthrough in 2004’s Layer Cake – another film where she was required to partake in another for-show coital exchange with Daniel Craig – has been the subject of recent speculation.
Miller's team forced to deny rumors
One source from the set fueled the claims, saying: “It's not simulated. They're really doing it.” However, Miller’s publicist quickly shut that down, explaining: “When you do a love scene, there is a minimum of five people in the room. There's no real sex and the scene proves she knows how to give a good performance.”
The two actors, both 25 at the time, met while filming the Factory Girl, a movie centered on Andy Warhol, and were believed to have developed a real-life relationship during production.
Director George Hickenlooper acknowledged their closeness, saying: “Sienna and Hayden grew close during filming. It was an emotional experience for all of us. We tried to portray it tastefully.” Still, he avoided confirming the rumors, adding: “I can't comment. You'll have to ask Sienna about it.”
Miller, who played 1960s socialite Edie Sedgwick, had previously admitted she felt uneasy about how the explicit scenes might be received, especially by her family.
She said: “We wanted to make it realistic and I watched it thinking: 'Oh my God, my dad's going to see it!'” She added: “But we didn't want to hold back because it is a real and gritty film. It wouldn't fit in the film if we had an unrealistic sex scene.”
Miller embroiled in controversy
The actress later found herself at the center of another controversy during a live appearance on the Today show, when she was accidentally caught swearing on air. After an awkward moment where she was left waving during a transition, she muttered: “F***ing hell”—which was broadcast to viewers. A source explained: “Sienna thought she was off air, but unfortunately it was broadcast to the nation,” and she was reportedly “mortified.”
Despite the off-screen drama, including reports she was seen returning to her hotel with the now-disgraced Sean Combs, Miller received praise for her performance, even though the film itself proved divisive among critics and audiences alike.
The surrounding controversy of the intimate scenes and Miller’s reported flings off-set, however, were not enough to mitigate against the disappointing reception, with the film proving to be a box office bomb, despite raising the former model’s profile.
