While Toy Story 3 gave us a fitting end to the beloved Pixar series back in 2010 (yes, it's really been eight years), the iconic animation studio still has more stories to tell featuring Woody, Buzz and the rest of the gang. Toy Story 4 is officially on its way, and it sounds as if the voice cast behind our favourite characters are getting just as emotional as the rest of us.
Tom Hanks, who has voiced Woody in all the Toy Story films and shorts, recently opened up about what this one was like behind the scenes.
Speaking on the Chris Evans Breakfast Show, he detailed how emotional he and everyone else got during his final scene:
"It was the first time that we were going to be recording the end of the movie, and Toy Story is going to have an impactful ending.
"The way you record Toy Story, you’re in a room with the team that has created it. When I went in for my last day of recording, I wanted to have my back to them, because usually you’re facing [the director] so he can look right up and you can talk about it. But I didn’t want to see them and pretend they couldn’t see me.
"When I realized what they were going for, I realized, 'Oh, this is a moment in history'."
He's not the only member of the cast to get emotional about the ending either, as Tim Allen - who voices Buzz Lightyear - spoke to Entertainment Weekly about what the new film will be like.
"It's emotional and funny and exciting and different and took it to a whole new level," he said in September. "It walks the line between comfort - you know what's going on - and discomfort - wondering what's going to happen. It's terrifically emotional."
On top of that, Allen also spoke to hosts of The Talk the same month, where he spoke about the last scene he took part in. "I couldn't even get through the last scene," he said at the time. "I would love to be a Washington leaker."
However, it looks like Allen has actually revealed a little more than he was meant to recently, when he dropped that Keanu Reeves will be in Toy Story 4.
Speaking on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Allen said:
"New guys are in it. Keanu Reeves has got a great part in it. Inside story, even the fun, gentle guy that he is, even he said, 'This sounds too much like Buzz Lightyear'. And his character does have an edge to that. And the guy said, ‘So we calmed him down a little bit,’ and they reminded me his toy is only that big."
This news, while put out there in a casual way, was a big surprise for a lot of fans out there:
While we know that Reeves is going to be voicing a toy, we have no clue what he'll be yet - but we'll find out when the movie is released on 21 July 2019...
