Fans have rallied around Lizzo after the singer admitted cruel comments from trolls had left her considering quitting music altogether.

The 35-year-old singer, whose real name is Melissa Jefferson, opened up about the kind of messages she receives on social media.

She shared a tweet someone had written fatshaming her, in which they shared a photo of Lizzo on stage and cruelly wrote: "How is Lizzo still THIS fat when she's constantly moving this much on stage?! I wonder what she must be eating."

Lizzo took to Twitter to address the awful comment, admitting that hate comments such as these make her want to pack it all in sometimes.

She wrote: "JUST logged on and the app and this is the type of s**t I see about me on a daily basis It’s really starting to make me hate the world.

"Then someone in the comments said I eat 'lots of fast food' I LITERALLY STOPPED EATING FAST FOOD YEARS AGO… I’m tired of explaining myself all the time and I just wanna get on this app w/out seeing my name in some bulls**t."

Lizzo added that she "hates" Twitter and that this is her natural body shape when she is "eating clean and working out."

The 'Juice' singer continued: " Y’all really need to touch grass… I’m not trying to BE fat I’m not trying to BE smaller I’m literally just trying to live and be healthy.

"This is what my body looks like even when I’m eating super clean and working out! Yall speak on s**t y’all know NOTHING ABOUT and I’m starting to get heated. I HATE IT HERE.

"The Love definitely do not outweigh the Hate on social media… all because I’m fat???? This is CRAZY."

Lizzo, who has often spoken about the importance of body positivity and representation of all shapes and sizes in the media, admitted that she has considered quitting being in the public eye altogether as a result of the constant backlash.

She wrote: "Y’all don’t know how close I be to giving up on everyone and quitting and enjoying my money and my man on a F*****G FARM…

"I literally NEVER search my name this stuff just comes up on my TL & my FYP it’s wild. I swear I just wanna look at dance videos and science news and this s**t comes in every day…

"ALSO: to the people who haven’t had an original thought or fresh air in years… BEING FAT ISNT MY 'BRAND' BEING FAT IS WHAT MY BODY LOOKS THAT. THATS IT. THATS ALL. My 'brand' is FEEL GOOD MUSIC My 'brand' is CHAMPIONING ALL PEOPLE My 'brand' is BLACK GIRL LIBERATION.

"I’ve always led w my TALENT… But when I dropped Good As Hell feel good music was 'corny'. When I dropped Juice disco pop wasn’t 'for them'. When I was body positive in 2016 being body positive was 'pandering'. Now everybody on that wave and I’m still s**t on?! man f**k y’all."

Lizzo also shared a video on her Instagram in which she held a sign a fan in the crowd at one of her shows had made her, reading: "I'm sorry people on Twitter suck - you are beautiful and special," as she encouraged others not to let the trolls get them down.

She captioned it: "I WILL NEVER SHUT UP ABOUT HOW DIFFICULT YALL MAKE IT FOR FAT PEOPLE TO SIMPLY EXIST. MINDING YOUR BUSINESS IS *FREE*

"IF THE INTERNET WAS LIMITED AND ONE COMMENT TOOK 24HRS TO POST I WONDER WHAT SOCIAL MEDIA WOULD BE LIKE."

Fans rallied around to support her, writing: "PEOPLE SHOULDN’T COMMENT ON OTHER PEOPLES BODIES.. PERIOD. Why are people SOO obsessed with what others do to their bodies and need to control their narratives?? If people cared more about what was going on in their head & heart, that would be the progress & health the world needs."

Others added: "Anyone who thinks Lizzo is unhealthy needs to do what she does. Up on stage each night, dancing, singing, playing flute, costume changes, the whole damn show. Get over yourself sitting on your couch making judgements" and "Like why they mad over somebody else’s body?! Huh?? L behaviour for real. Focus on yourself."

Just a reminder for anyone that needs it - someone else's body shape should never be your business.
