Halle Berry has responded to an enraged tweet from someone confusing her with Halle Bailey, the star playing Ariel in The Little Mermaid.

The forthcoming live-action adaptation of Disney’s 1989 animated flick is due to be released next year and features the 22-year-old musician as the red-haired mermaid, with the likes of Jonah Hauer-King, Melissa McCarty, Daveed Diggs, and more.

However, noticeably, the 56-year-old Catwoman actress will not be featured in the film, although, some mistakenly believed that she was when Bailey - who is part of the music duo Chloe X Halle - was announced to take the lead role.

In a now-deleted tweet, one person wrote: "Halle Berry is nearly 60 playing the role of a 16-year-old girl. This is what happens when you upset a fandom," which led to the academy award-winning actress simply responding to the confused user with a meme.

The original Twitter user can take some comfort in knowing that they’re not the first person to confuse the Chloe X Halle singer with Berry.

A quick search of "Halle Berry Ariel" on Twitter's engine brings up several tweets showing the same mix-up. One person wrote: "Halle Berry giving me chills as ariel," while another excited fan tweeted: "HALLE BERRY IS ARIEL SUCK ON THAT."

However, another user was able to recognize their own mistake, writing: "I spent the last four hours thinking Halle Berry was the new Ariel and feeling very puzzled by the choice, nope I just can’t read."

This is also not the first time the Monster's Ball star has replied to someone confusing her with the same-name musician. Back in December, one user wrote: "Can’t wait to see you under da sea!" to which the actress politely replied: "Wrong Halle lol. I can’t wait to see her too though!"

Despite all of the perplexity, Berry is excited about the film. After Disney unveiled the teaser trailer for the upcoming remake at the d23 expo on September 10, the Moonfall actress tweeted: "This means so much! Can’t wait @HalleBailey."

Her enthusiasm was shared by many fans who despite the controversy over Bailey's casting, celebrated the 'Do It' singer's Ariel visuals and vocals. They also spoke of the importance of having a Black woman in a beloved role.

In response to all the love she received online, Bailey tweeted: "Guys..today has been so overwhelming and incredible … I’m so happy you’re getting to see a peek of everything … thank you for the love."

The Little Mermaid is just the latest in a long list of live-action Disney movie remakes that are set to be released with revived visuals.

It'll join the earlier releases: Cinderella, Dumbo, Beauty and the Beast, The Jungle Book, Aladdin, The Lion King, Lady, and the Tramp, Mulan, and Pinocchio.

The Little Mermaid is set for release in theaters on May 26, 2023.
