After hearing of the tragedy, tributes have been pouring in.

Halle Berry, who worked with Canto in the 2014 sci-fi-action flick X-Men: Days of Future Past alongside Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and Hugh Jackman, took to Instagram to post some kind words about her "dear, sweet friend."

"I don’t have the words just yet... but my dear sweet friend Adan just gained his wings. Forever, forever in my heart," she said next to a still image of the star.

Canto was only 16 when he started out in the industry, opting to initially pursue a music career before making his first TV debut in 2009. His American debut later came in 2013 in the Fox crime thriller series The Following, starring Kevin Bacon. From there Canto went on to star in ABC’s sitcom Mixology, Netflix’s crime drama Narcos, Blood and Oil, and Second Chance.

His first major film role was playing the superhero Sunspot in X-Men: Days of Future Past in 2014.

Then in 2016, Canto joined Fox’s Designated Survivor taking on the role of Vice President Aaron Shore alongside other stars such as Kiefer Sutherland and Italia Ricci.

Sutherland also posted a tribute to Instagram writing: "It seems lately I have had to make too many posts like this one, but I am heartbroken by the loss of Adan Canto," he wrote in an Instagram post on Tuesday. "He was such a wonderful spirit. As an actor his desire to do well, to be great, and then do better, was truly impressive and he will be greatly missed.

"I am also heartbroken for his wife, Steph and his two young children. Adan, may you rest in peace," the actor added.

Canto's other credits involve being the director of a short short film titled Before Tomorrow, released in 2014. His 2020 follow-up, The Shot, also earned him the jury prize for best narrative short at the San Antonio Film Festival that same year.

The star's latest project saw him take on a leading role in The Cleaning Lady with Elodie Yung.

In a joint statement after the news of the 42-year-old's death, Warner Bros. Television and Fox Entertainment said: "We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Adan Canto. A wonderful actor and dear friend, we were honored to have him as part of the Warner Bros. Television and Fox Entertainment families since his U.S. debut in The Following more than a decade ago.

"Most recently, he lit up the screen in The Cleaning Lady with a powerful performance that showcased his artistry, range, depth and vulnerability. This is an unfathomable loss, and we grieve alongside his wife Stephanie, their children and loved ones," they added before concluding: "We will miss Adan dearly."

Our thoughts and prayers are with the actor's loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.
