Jeremy Renner has been left hospitalized following a snow plow incident - and it has been revealed he was helping a stranded motorist when the accident occurred.
Renner, best known for his role as Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was in his secluded mountain home near Mt. Rose-Ski Tahoe in Nevada when a winter storm struck on New Year's Eve leaving 35,000 people without power, per the Reno-Gazette Journal.
The 51-year-old is no stranger to the wintery conditions, as he often operates his own snow plow - called a Snowcat - to clear the area surrounding his home.
On Sunday (January 1) the two-time Oscar nominee was airlifted to hospital after an incident involving his snow plow left him with blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries, resulting in serious blood loss, per TMZ.
Speaking to Deadline at the time, a spokesperson for the actor said: "[Jeremy is in a] critical but stable condition with injuries suffered after experiencing a weather-related accident while plowing snow earlier today."
Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve has stated that Renner was assisting a stranded car on the side of the road when the accident occurred.
Mayor Schieve received a call soon after the accident had happened as she and Renner are friends, and told the Reno-Gazette Journal that Renner is "always helping others."
She went on to explain that the actor often helps the community and that he donates to multiple charities without ever publicizing what he is up to.
In a statement released by Renner's family, via TMZ, the mayor was specifically named: "Jeremy’s family would like to express their gratitude to the incredible doctors and nurses looking after him, Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue, Washoe County Sheriff, Reno City Mayor Hillary Schieve and the Carano and Murdock families."
Per ABC News, the winter storm left 23 inches of snow in the area surrounding the actor's home, and Renner was the only injured party in the accident.
The actor has since updated fans via his Instagram page where he uploaded an image of himself from his hospital bed with the caption: "Thank you all for your kind words. I'm too messed up now to type. But I send love to you all."
It sounds like Renner was being a good samaritan at the time of the incident, and we wish him all the best in his recovery.
