Courtroom attendees were warned to maintain order on Monday after Johnny Depp had them in fits of giggles when he struggled to remember his own movies.
Judge Penney Azcarate threatened to throw people out of the courtroom if they could not settle down during proceedings at Fairfax County Court in Virginia.
Depp, 58, is currently embroiled in a defamation trial, in which he is suing his ex-wife Amber Heard for allegedly defaming him in a 2018 op-ed for the Washington Post.
Last week, the Pirates of the Caribbean star took the stand to testify against his former wife. It was then over to Heard's legal team to cross-examine the star with follow-up questions.
But things didn't go to plan on his final day of testimony when the actor was asked to list his movie franchises. After naming Alice in Wonderland, Depp seemed to draw a blank, then cracked a joke about avoiding watching his own films.
"I'm so pathetic when it comes to knowing what movies I've done," he said with a smile, per The Independent. "I'm sorry. I just, I don't watch them. I feel better not watching them. What was the question again?"
The actor's answer was enough to make several people in the courtroom burst out laughing. Judge Azcarate hushed them and even threatened to have them kicked out, saying: "Order in the court or I will have you removed. Understood? Thank you."
Before the trial started, the judge ordered that if either Depp or Heard courted fan attention, they would be found in contempt of court. Neither is allowed to "pose for pictures or sign autographs in the Courthouse or on Courthouse grounds" per a court document, People reports.
"Audible comments of any kind during the court proceedings or provocative or uncivil behavior within the courtroom or courthouse will not be tolerated," the document added. "There shall be no gestures, facial expressions, or the like, suggesting approval or disapproval during the proceedings. Anyone violating this Order will be expelled immediately from the courtroom and will not be able to return during the pendency of the trial."
Meanwhile, many of Depp's fans have flocked to the trial, standing outside the courthouse with messages reading: "Justice for Johnny".
