Johnny Depp's new collection of artwork that he produced has sold out "almost immediately" after going on sale.

As reported by the Sunday Times, the 59-year-old Pirates of the Caribbean actor reportedly earned over $3.6 million after releasing 780 prints through the Castle Fine Art gallery in London on Thursday (July 28).

Depp's limited-edition collection titled "Friends & Heroes" features bold portraits of people such as Al Pacino, Bob Dylan, Elizabeth Taylor, and Keith Richards.

According to the gallery, Depp's collection is focused on people "he has known well" and who have "inspired him," adding that, "each image is an intimate reflection of their character in Johnny's eyes; a portrayal of how they have revealed themselves to him".

Each limited edition portrait is listed online for $3,973 - with the set of four on sale for $15,040. Castle Fine Art created a blog page for the actor to divulge further into his fascination with art.

"For Johnny Depp, there has always been art. Before acting, and before music, art has always been an important outlet for his creativity," they wrote.

"While his acting repertoire is the foundation for his fame, the recent reception to his music with Jeff Beck has encouraged him, and emboldened him, to share his art," they continued.

"Furthermore, he has for many years established himself as an art collector of great merit, with some of the world’s most coveted names in contemporary art in his private collection," they added. "From Basquiat to Banksy, Depp has amassed an extraordinary portfolio that demonstrates his love for visual art."

The Edwards Scissorhands actor also shared a statement on his artwork through the gallery, saying: "I've always used art to express my feelings, and to reflect on those who matter most to me, like my family, friends, and people I admire."

"My paintings surround my life, but I kept them to myself and limited myself. No one should ever limit themselves," he added.

The sale of his art collection comes weeks after his ex-wife, Amber Heard, had her request for a mistrial denied by the judge, who ruled that the verdict in their defamation trial still stands.

On June 1, seven jurors in Fairfax, Virginia favored Depp and awarded him over $10 million in damages over the 36-year-old's 2018 op-ed in the Washington Post.

Heard was awarded $2 million for one of her defamation countersuit claims - to which Depp's legal team has since filed their notice of appeal to overturn the countersuit.

In the weeks since the trial, Depp has been touring overseas performing with Jeff Beck, with whom he released an album.
