Lisa Loring, the actress who first portrayed Wednesday Addams on screen, has died at the age of 64, her daughter confirmed.

Loring was just six years old when she took on the iconic role, playing The Addams Family's macabre, death-obsessed daughter Wednesday in the original sitcom.

The series ran from 1964 until 1966 and also starred John Astin and Carolyn Jones as Gomez and Morticia Addams, Ted Cassidy as Lurch, and Ken Weatherwax as Pugsley.

Loring's family revealed that the actress died "peacefully with both her daughters holding her hand" as they shared a statement.

Loring's daughter, Vanessa Foumberg, confirmed the sad news that the actress had died after complications from a stroke, which was brought on by high blood pressure.

Foumberg told Variety: "She went peacefully with both her daughters holding her hands."

Laurie Jackson, a friend of Loring, also paid tribute to the actress online, writing: "It is with great sadness that I report the death of our friend, Lisa Loring. 4 Days ago she suffered a massive stroke brought on by smoking and high blood pressure.

"She had been on life support for 3 days. Yesterday, her family made the difficult decision to remove it and she passed last night. She is embedded in the tapestry that is pop culture and in our hearts always as Wednesday Addams.

"Beautiful, kind, a loving mother, Lisa's legacy in the world of entertainment is huge. And the legacy for her family and friends -- a wealth of humor, affection and love will long play in our memories. RIP, Lisa. Damn, girl...you were a ton of fun."

Loring's most iconic role was as Wednesday, having starred in the series for 64 episodes, before being cast in the short-lived sitcom The Pruitts Of Southampton and the spy drama The Girl From U.N.C.L.E.

She also had a recurring role in As The World Turns from 1980 to 1983, and reprised an older version of Wednesday Addams in 1977 in the TV movie Halloween with the New Addams Family.

The Addams Family has remained popular for decades, most recently getting a revival in 2022 as Jenna Ortega took on the role of Wednesday in the Netflix series of the same name.

The character was also famously played by Christina Ricci in The Addams Family (1991) and Addams Family Values (1993).

Loring was born in 1958 in the Marshall Islands, spending her first years in Hawaii before moving to Los Angeles with her mother, where she began her modeling career at the age of three.

She was married four times - including to her childhood sweetheart at the age of just 15 - and is survived by two daughters, Marianne and Vanessa.

Our thoughts are with her friends and family at this difficult time.
