The entertainment world is today mourning the sudden passing of Lisa Marie Presley, Elvis's only child, who passed away on Thursday (January 12) aged just 54.
She was last seen publicly at this week's Golden Globes Awards, where Austin Butler thanked both her and her mother, Priscilla, as he accepted the best actor award for his role in Baz Luhrmann's Elvis - a powerful biopic on the rock and roll icon.
Multiple sources have reported that Lisa Marie - who also followed in her father's footsteps and forged a music career in the early 00s - suffered a cardiac arrest at her home in Calabasas, California. Her ex-husband and father to her two eldest children Danny Keough, who also lives on the property, reportedly found her unresponsive in her bedroom and began performing CPR.
Sky News then detailed that paramedics were called to the property at around 10:40 AM, and Lisa Marie was rushed to hospital. At the time, Priscilla, 77, tweeted the news that her daughter was "receiving the best care", telling fans: "My beloved daughter Lisa Marie was rushed to the hospital. She is now receiving the best care. Please keep her and our family in your prayers. We feel the prayers from around the world, and ask for privacy during this time."
Mere hours later, however, Priscilla released a further statement announcing that Lisa Marie had tragically passed away.
While she didn't reveal a cause of death, she stated via BBC News: "It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us. She was the most passionate, strong and loving woman I have ever known. We ask for privacy as we try to deal with this profound loss."
Just two years ago in 2020, Lisa Marie dealt with the devastating loss of her only son Benjamin, who died by suicide aged just 27. In August 2022, she penned a moving essay for PEOPLE about his death in honor of National Grief Awareness Day, which she shared on Instagram as her final p0st.
In the essay, Lisa Marie described the tragic impacts of grief, writing that she'd dealt with it since the age of nine when her father Elvis passed away from heart disease. "I've dealt with death, grief and loss since the age of 9 years old," she wrote. "I've had more than anyone's fair share of it in my lifetime and somehow, I've made it this far."
She continued: "But this one, the death of my beautiful, beautiful son? The sweetest and most incredible being that I have ever had the privilege of knowing, who made me feel so honored every single day to be his mother? Who was so much like his grandfather on so many levels that he actually scared me? Which made me worry about him even more than I naturally would have? No."
The former singer even wrote about the tragedy of losing a child, saying: "Grief is something you will have to carry with you for the rest of your life, in spite of what certain people or our culture wants us to believe. You do not 'get over it,' you do not 'move on,' period."
The last post prior to that had also been in tribute to Benjamin, as she showed off the matching tattoos they had got.
She wrote at the time: "Several years ago, on Mother's Day, my son and I got these matching tattoos on our feet. It’s a Celtic eternity knot. Symbolizing that we will be connected eternally. We carefully picked it to represent our eternal love and our eternal bond."
Our thoughts and condolences go out to Lisa Marie Presley's family, friends, and fans at this devastating time.
