Lisa Marie Presley's cause of death was confirmed yesterday, and further reports have revealed information about the circumstances of her death.
Lisa Marie, the daughter of music legend Elvis Presley and his wife Priscilla Presley, left the world in shock earlier this year when she suddenly passed away.
The news of her death broke on January 12, just days after the 54-year-old had made an appearance at the Golden Globe Awards as she sat with the team behind Elvis, a biopic about her late father.
She was discovered unresponsive by her former partner Danny Keough who also resided at their California home, and he performed CPR until paramedics could arrive at the scene.
Yesterday, July 13, Lisa Marie's cause of death was revealed to be small bowel obstruction, which is essentially a complication arising from a small bowel obstruction.
The autopsy read: "The obstruction was in the form of a strangulated small bowel caused by adhesions that developed after bariatric surgery years ago. This is a known long-term complication of this type of surgery."
Following this announcement, a toxicology report has been made public and it has revealed that the star had opioids and various other medications in her system at the time of her death, via Entertainment Tonight.
However, the autopsy went on to state that the opioids in Lisa Marie's system did not contribute to her death.
TMZ reported that prior to her death, the 54-year-old had been on a rigorous weight loss regime, which was driven by her desire to look her best as Elvis was being celebrated at many major award ceremonies.
Just days prior to her death, Lisa Marie had expressed how "happy" she was at the Golden Globes Awards after watching Austin Butler secure Best Actor for the portrayal of her father.
Butler thanked the Presley family during his acceptance speech on the night, saying: "[Thank you] for opening your hearts, your memories, your home to me. Lisa Marie and Priscilla, I love you forever."
Lisa Marie appeared to be thrilled at the actor getting well-deserved recognition for the portrayal of her Elvis, and when she was asked about it by PEOPLE, she responded: "I'm so happy."
The Golden Globes would be her final public appearance, and it was clearly a night full of joy as they not only celebrated winning the award but also the life of her legendary father.
Our thoughts remain with Lisa Marie's loved ones at this time.
