Iconic rock and roll legend Bruce Springsteen claims that he's going to leave the United States and move to Australia if Donald Trump wins the upcoming presidential election.

According to an article in The Daily Mail, the 71-year-old musician was recently asked by the Australian press via a virtual chat what his opinion was on their country, and Springsteen was happy to reply in very complimentary terms.

The 'Born in the USA' rocker stated:

"I love Australia. Every time, we have nothing but good times down there. It’s always a treat to come. Love the people, love the geography. Great place for motorcycle trips, it’s close to our hearts."

"The Boss" then joked:

"If Trump is re-elected - which he will not be, I’m predicting right now he’s gonna lose - if by some happenstance he should be, I’ll see you on the next plane."

Indeed, Springsteen has been a longtime critic of the president and hasn't ever minced words when asked his opinion of the Republican leader. For instance, in a 2018 profile by Esquire, Springsteen stated:

"The founding fathers were pretty good at confronting their fears and the fears of the country. And it’s the old cliché where geniuses built the system so an idiot could run it. We are completely testing that theory at this very moment. I do believe we’ll survive Trump."

Furthermore, in a more recent interview with The Atlantic, Springsteen was even more disparaging, stating:

"I believe that our current president is a threat to our democracy. He simply makes any kind of reform that much harder... I don’t know if our democracy could stand another four years of his custodianship. These are all existential threats to our democracy and our American way of life."

A number of Trump supporters played Bruce Springsteen's 'Born in the USA' outside the hospital where the president was treated for Covid-19, apparently without realizing what its lyrics mean.

Their choice of 'Born in the USA' was mocked by commentators online, who pointed out that it is not the patriotic power ballad that they believed it to be.

A close reading of the lyrics of the song shows that it is actually about the treatment of working-class soldiers when they return to the USA from fighting overseas.
