Austin Butler has recently opened up about the difficulties of transforming himself into 60s pop-rock icon Elvis Presley for the self-titled biopic, even recalling one moment when his "body started shutting down" after he finished filming.
Speaking to Janine Rubenstein and Jeremy Parsons from PEOPLE during the outlet's preshow coverage at the 29th Screen Actors Guild Awards, Butler revealed that playing the late entertainer came with a few downsides.
The 31-year-old former Nickelodeon star lost his voice at one point while performing vocals for the drama, and also previously revealed that he was bedridden for a week with a virus that kept him from completing his work.
"I had a week of downtime, where I actually ended up in the hospital," Butler said on Sunday. "I didn't get sick the entire time I filmed [Elvis] but the day I finished, I ended up in the emergency room."
"So I spent a week in bed and then I went to this other job," he added.
He also told the interviewers that he lost his voice while he was performing Elvis' version of 'Never Been to Spain'.
"We did so many takes. And at a certain point, I just lost my voice," the actor explained. "So then I went on vocal rest for a couple days, and I was able to come back."
Previously, the actor opened up about his health issues during an interview with GQ Magazine.
Due to Butler's constant dedication to the role, his body had allegedly "revolted" from the excessive preparation.
"My body just started shutting down the day after I finished Elvis," he told the publication.
After filming wrapped up and the rush of playing the King of Rock'n'Roll subsided - besides the iconic voice of course - the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood actor said: "The next day I woke up at four in the morning with excruciating pain, and I was rushed to hospital."
The outlet reported that he was diagnosed with "a virus that simulates appendicitis and spent a week bedridden."
Despite the health complications though, he described the iconic portrayal as "the greatest ride of [his] life."
Earlier this month, Butler took home the award for Best Actor at the BAFTAs on February 19. Just a few weeks prior, he had also claimed the victory for Best Actor in a Drama for his performance as Elvis at last month's Golden Globe Awards.
The actor is seemingly on a good run ahead of the coveted Oscars ceremony which is set to take place March 12.
The 31-year old has been nominated for Best Actor for the biopic, which marks his first Oscar nomination.
