Sharon Stone broke down into tears while accepting an award after revealing that a banking collapse has resulted in her losing "half her money."
Stone, 65, took to the stage of the Women’s Cancer Research Fund’s (WCRF) fundraiser on Thursday (March 16) to accept the Courage Award.
As per Page Six, Stone underwent surgery in 2001 to remove tumors that she described as "gigantic, bigger than my breast alone."
While accepting her award, the actress broke down into tears, stating that it took "courage" for her to donate while stating that she had recently lost half of her fortune.
Watch Stone's speech below:"I know that thing that you have to get on and figure out how to text the money is difficult. I’m a technical idiot, but I can write a f***ing check," Stone said.
"Right now, that’s courage, too, because I know what’s happening. I just lost half my money to this banking thing, and that doesn’t mean that I’m not here."
While Stone didn't reveal what "banking thing" she was alluding to, it's presumed that she was referencing the recent collapse of the Silicon Valley Bank.
As reported by the Guardian, the collapse triggered the most significant financial crisis since 2008, but financial worries were eased when Wall Street propped up the First Republic, though Goldman Sachs has raised its prediction for a recession to 35%.
President Biden offered words of comfort via the New York Post: "Thanks to the quick action of my administration over the last few days, Americans can have confidence that the banking system is safe. Your deposits will be there when you need them."
While on stage, Stone also referenced her late brother Patrick who passed away aged 57 on February 12 of this year.
"My brother just died, and that doesn’t mean that I’m not here. This is not an easy time for any of us," Stone said at the awards ceremony.
"This is a hard time in the world, but I’m telling you what, I’m not having some politician tell me what I can and cannot do. How I can and cannot live, and what the value of my life is and is not."
The actress concluded: "So stand up. Stand up and say what you’re worth. I dare you. That’s what courage is."
Two years prior to this speech, Stone opened up about the loss of her nephew and godson who passed away shortly before his first birthday.
Speaking with People, Stone revealed that nothing helped the family's heartbreak more than knowing her godson helped to save others through organ donation.
Watch Stone's heartbreaking tribute to her nephew below:Stone said: "The fact that my godson was able to save three lives, two infants and a 45-year-old man was a sanctuary for our family.
"I can only say that you never, never know when a tragedy will happen in your life or in your family, but this opportunity be an organ donor, it saved us, saved our family."
The actress concluded: "Many people have many different thoughts about this, but in the end, it gave us some peace."
