The release date for Shrek 5 has allegedly been spilled thanks to an intern who accidentally let it slip.

According to the Daily Mail, an intern for NBC Universal mistakenly listed the upcoming movie as a new release for 2025 in a tweet posted to Linkedin.

While the post was quickly deleted from the professional social media platform, the popular news account @DiscussingFilm re-shared the news on Twitter, better known now as X.

"'SHREK 5' is now rumored to release in 2025," wrote the film account. "An NBCUniversal employee listed the film for 2025 on her LinkedIn but has quickly altered the description."

Of course, this prompted a massive reaction from fans who took to the comments to share their opinions on the matter.

"Cinema is back," wrote one user while another added: "Amazing news."

A third also pointed out that the video game "GTA 6 and Shrek 5 getting announced on the same day is insane."

Others also talked about the fact that the intern is most likely not going to survive in the industry much longer writing that this was "quickest way to get fired as an intern."

Speaking to Variety, Chris Meledandri, the founder and CEO of Illumination, and the man tasked with rebooting the animated franchise said that he would do his best to "honor" the "core elements" of the movies.

"You look at what the core elements are that audiences have loved, and you do your very best to honor those core elements," he told the outlet. "And then you're hard at work to build story elements and new characters that take you to brand new places. The original cast is a huge part of that."

"We anticipate the cast coming back," he continued before adding: "Talks are starting now, and every indication that we've gotten is there's tremendous enthusiasm on behalf of the actors to return."

Mike Myers, 60, has played Shrek in all four films so far alongside Eddie Murphy, 62, as Donkey, Antonio Banderas, 63, as Puss, Cameron Diaz, 51, as Princess Fiona and John Lithgow, 78, as Lord Farquaad.

Murphy was seemingly all ready to take on the role of Donkey again, previously telling ETalk that he's ready to go.

'If [DreamWorks] ever came with another Shrek, I'd do it in two seconds. I love Donkey," he told the publisher back in January.

"They did Puss in Boots movies. I was like, 'They should have done a Donkey movie.' Donkey is funnier than Puss in Boots. I mean, I love Puss in Boots, but he ain't funny as the Donkey," he continued.

Meledandri said he was apparently "thrilled" when he heard the news: "It's evidence of his strong enthusiasm for a role that he so brilliantly inhabited and really created alongside the artists at DreamWorks. I found that comment to be very exciting."

When asked if Donkey deserved his own movie, he enthusiastically answered: "Without question."

We'll just have to see what happens.
