A company has offered a cash sum to the ‘Phillies Karen’ if she comes out of hiding and returns the baseball that she controversially took from a child.

In case you haven’t heard the viral story yet, it started at a Major League Baseball game between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Miami Marlins in Florida last Friday.

Phillies centre fielder Harrison Bader hit a home run, and a man emerged from the resulting scrabble in the stands with the ball, which he gave to his son.

However, a woman wearing Phillies gear then berated him and forced him to take the ball from the youngster and give it to her, sparking widespread condemnation and resulting in her being booed out of the stadium.

Who is the Phillies Karen?

Since the incident, there has been a race online to discover the identity of the mystery ball-grabber, with cases of mistaken identity causing some people to defend themselves

The family themselves have also spoken out, offering only their side of the situation - including some 'vulgar' details - and no information about who the woman was.

So, we know who it isn’t, but we are no closer to finding out who she is.

That is, until this campaign from a business to draw her out of hiding and to reveal herself.

Whether it proves to be successful or not, we’ll have to wait and see.

The promise is simple - Phillies Karen can have a wad of cash, but she has to hand over the baseball and make an apology in writing.

The idea is the brainchild - and definitely not the cynical marketing ploy - of Blowout Cards, a sports and trading card retailer.

They have put up $5,000 for the Phillies Karen to claim for her own, but on the condition that she autograph an apology onto the ball.

The company claims that the aim is to get the ball back to the child it was initially given to, who was out celebrating his 10th birthday with his family.

Will the Phillies Karen come forward?

On the Blowout Cards website, the company wrote: “We'll offer $5,000 for that baseball right here, right now ... but there is a catch.

“We want that ball signed and inscribed by her - and only her, whoever she is - ‘I’m sorry’ so we can simply give it back to the kid.

“Our offer is official and the offer is firm.”

On X - formerly Twitter - the company further outlined: “Attention Karen: We will you pay $5,000 for the ball we only ask that you autograph it 'I’m sorry'"

“Please share we would really like to get this ball to that young fan.”

We won’t hold our breath waiting for her to come forward, but stranger things have happened.

However, one thing is for sure, the internet doesn’t usually like to let these things drop without getting answers.

Just remember the story of the millionaire who snatched a hat from a child at the US Open tennis recently - he was found and forced to admit his guilt and regret.

Fans are divided on what should have happened.

One wrote: “Don't reward bad behavior.”

“Snooze you lose. He got it fair and square. I'd told her to F off,” said another.

However, a third argued: “I have to side with ‘Karen’. Looks like he took it from her hand. The dad is an a-hole.”
