A former Mexican mayor has been forced to speak out about the commotion caused by her cleavage, after football fans claimed they struggled to keep their eyes on the pitch while watching the World Cup.
Sandra Cuevas, who served as the mayor of Mexico City's borough of Cuauhtémoc from October 2021 to March 2024, has now made a statement about the attention her low-cut top drew.
After being spotted out celebrating Mexico’s World Cup wins and documenting her festivities on social media, fans were fixated on Cuevas.
Despite the forwardness of some people, Cuevas has declared that she takes the attention around her breasts as a compliment.
The 40-year-old is also flattered that she has been compared to Mar Castro, a model who was nicknamed 'La Chiquitibum', after Mexico’s celebratory chant after starring in a 1986 World Cup advert.
According to The Sun, Cuevas said: "The Chiquitibum… well, guys, what can I do, I can’t just take them off.
"They had already nicknamed me that, and it amuses me, I like it. I don’t take it as an attack, there will be those who think that way and take it in a derogatory way, but that’s how we Mexicans are.”
In a video of her celebrating Mexico’s 1 - 0 win over South Korea last week, she told fans how she threw herself into the celebrations, captioning the post: "Here in the front row to celebrate the triumph of the Mexican national team, with the neighborhood, with the people, enjoying life and our most beautiful!"
One fan boldly commented: "We were hoping for a cleavage shot…”
Another added: "This woman really represents the country. Long live Sandra Cueva!"
Someone else added to the shower of compliments: "Beautiful as always."
It only takes a quick search of the former mayor to tell that she is no stranger to being the center of attention.
Local news outlet El País previously reported that to celebrate her first day as mayor, she put on quite the display. There were fireworks, a red carpet, and butterflies while she threw balls of cash from her balcony office.
As Cuevas’ TikTok following continues to grow, the more she posts about celebrating the World Cup, Mexico’s players might have to accept they will be sharing the limelight with the former mayor this summer.

A Mexican trade association leader is expected to lose his position after a video showing him making a racist gesture toward a South Korean influencer during a World Cup match went viral online.
South Korean content creator Yoon Su-jin, known online as inocat_t and followed by nearly nine million people across Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, was filming herself celebrating South Korea's opening World Cup win over Czechia in Jalisco, Mexico, when the incident occurred.
While recording, Ulises Bernal, president of the College of Topographic and Geomatic Engineers of Jalisco, appeared in the background.
Footage shows him laughing, making hand gestures, and then pulling his eyes into a slanted shape before sitting back down. Yoon appeared visibly shocked as she looked toward her camera.
Reacting to the moment, Yoon wrote in Korean: “I came all the way to Mexico for the World Cup, but … am I being too sensitive?” She also described the experience by writing: “POV: You traveled across the world for the World Cup… and experienced racism.”
The backlash was unsurprisingly quick, prompting a huge response from the engineering association.
A spokesperson for the government trade association told The New York Post: “We are deeply saddened by what is happening regarding this incident.”
They also confirmed that disciplinary action was being considered, explaining that “the Honor and Justice Committee is meeting this same day” and that Bernal would be “removed from office.”
Many social media users expressed support for Yoon and condemned the behavior of Bernal, in what was supposed to be a celebration of football.
One commenter wrote: “That’s rude, that’s not right! I apologize, not all Mexicans are like that.”
Another person dismissed Bernal's actions as ignorance rather than representative of the country, saying: “Just as there are people all over the world with something wrong with their brains, that guy is no exception.” The commenter added: “Let it go and enjoy everything else.”
However, not everyone agreed that the gesture was offensive. Some users argued that people were overreacting.
One ignorant commenter claimed: “A few years ago, no one took offense at that gesture. Today, people are so thin-skinned that they call anything racism.”
Another person attempted to defend the behavior as part of local culture, writing: “That’s just how we are in Mexico. We give everyone nicknames, we make fun of everything, and we love to tease and banter — it’s what makes us happy.”
The commenter continued: “Just because there’s a lot of racism in the US, people want to apply that same standard to Mexico? Give me a break.”
The incident has sparked broader discussion online about racism, cultural differences, and the behavior expected from public figures during major international events like the World Cup.
Luis Rubiales, the currently suspended President of the Spanish Football Federation, appears to have had his claims about the controversial kiss at the World Cup final disproven by a new video.
Spain won the Women's World Cup after they beat England 1-0 in the final, but their victory was quickly tarnished by a controversial kiss that took place during the trophy presentation.
The incident in question involved Rubiales, 46, who was seen kissing Jenni Hermoso, 33, on the lips as she collected her medal.
This ignited a wave of controversy, triggering widespread outrage and demands for Rubiales' resignation from both Spanish football circles and governmental quarters.
Rubiales himself maintains that the kiss was consensual, and the Spanish Football Federation supported his claims and stated that Hermoso instigated the kiss after lifting him from the ground, per the Daily Mail.
Despite these claims, a new angle appears to disprove Rubiales as it seemingly shows him instigating the hug and throwing himself up in the air, forcing Hermoso to hold him so he wouldn't fall.
Following this, the kiss takes place and the footage appears to show that Rubiales is the party who instigated it.
Hermoso addressed the moment later during an interview with Spanish TV network La 1, responding: "Eh... yeah, I did not enjoy that."
Rubiales brushed off the criticism about the kiss during an interview with Radio MARCO, explaining: "The kiss with Jenni? There are idiots everywhere. When two people have a minor show of affection, we can't listen to idiocy. We are champions and that's what I'll take."
Hermoso also defended Rubiales during a later interview, stating that the moment was a "natural gesture of affection".
She told the Spanish federation, via AFP: "It was a totally spontaneous mutual gesture because of the immense joy that winning a World Cup brings.
"The president and I have a great relationship, his behavior with all of us has been outstanding and it was a natural gesture of affection and gratitude.
"A gesture of friendship and gratitude cannot be gone over so much, we have won a World Cup and we are not going to deviate from what is important."
While the Spanish Football Federation unwaveringly stands by Rubiales, FIFA's decision casts a shadow of uncertainty over Rubiales' future and his efficacy in his current leadership role.
FIFA's official statement, as reported by Reuters, reads: "Luis Rubiales is suspended from all football-related activities at national and international level." The suspension, which takes immediate effect, spans an initial period of 90 days, pending the outcome of the ongoing disciplinary procedures.
World Cup viewers were left stunned after a soccer pundit used an X-rated expletive live on air ahead of the United States’ much-anticipated opener against Paraguay on Friday.
Former soccer player-turned-pundit Alexi Lalas appeared on Fox’s coverage of FIFA’s showpiece tournament, alongside Thierry Henry and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Previewing the USMNT’s debut in this edition of the competition, the trio had been discussing the host’s chances in front of their home faithful while at Los Angeles Stadium.
Live on air, the panel, hosted by Rebecca Lowe, was watching preparations for the opening ceremony of the US’ share of the tournament, with the country being joint hosts with Canada and Mexico.
After airing a segment in which James Corden was seen training the USMNT squad while wearing the country’s official away kit, Lalas responded with a risque phrase.
Lalas, who made over 90 appearances for the USMNT in the 1990s, joked: "What do you guys call him, a full kit w***er, right?"
With the rest of the panel looking mortified, and Henry’s mouth visibly agape, Lalas rushed to justify his comment, "What? He’s all dressed up and ready to go?"
Still shocked by Lalas’ nonchalant use of an expletive on live TV, Henry retorted: "Did he just say that?"
Lowe then quickly interjected, stating: "Luckily, we are on American television, because the 'W' word on British TV 'uh-uh'", waving her finger.
Unsurprisingly, viewers were also left shocked by Lalas’ casual use of a swear word, with one X user claiming: “NOT ON LIVE TV. THIERRY HENRY COULDN’T BELIEVE IT.”
Another commented: "full kit w***er, which if you dont know, is one of the best sayings we have ever invented."
Others pointed out Henry’s hilarious reaction: "We have a new Thierry Henry meme."
However, some users highlighted the disparity between the use of the word in the UK and its meaning in the US, "Alexei Lalas said 'FULL KIT w***er'. Apart from him being spot on, funny here in the UK, but it can't have much connotation in the US surely?"
The 'World Cup's hottest fan' has once again found herself at the centre of attention after arriving at Croatia's World Cup clash against England in a daring outfit.
The Croatian influencer has become famous for her eye-catching appearances at major football tournaments.
Ahead of Wednesday's (June 17) match, the 33-year-old posed in the stands wearing a red-and-white checkered top in support of Croatia that left little to the imagination.
Knoll shared pictures of her risque look on Instagram alongside the caption: "CROATIA let's gooo."
The outfit quickly sparked reactions from fans, with many flooding the comments section to praise the model.
One follower called her "Wonder Woman," while another wrote: "You've done it again." A third shared: "You look beautiful," while a fourth added: "She knew she was going to have to top her old fits."
A fifth user said: "I missed you, last World Cup was when I came across your page and have been a fan."
Knoll, who was once crowned Miss Croatia, first gained international attention during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where her Croatia-themed outfits regularly went viral.
Her popularity exploded throughout the tournament, helping her build an audience of nearly three million followers on Instagram.
The model later claimed that some soccer players even proposed marriage after seeing her at matches.
Despite the attention, she insisted she was simply trying to enjoy the atmosphere and support her team, and also shut down suggestions that she was looking for romance while attending games.
"I am not interested in meeting with anybody here. My intention is to make people smile, that is all," she told the Daily Mail.
The influencer also told the outlet that she was surprised by some of the assumptions people made about her because of her outfits.
"I am only having fun with everybody," she said. "I suppose people like me because I am good-looking."
While Knoll says she enjoys interacting with supporters, she admitted that the attention she receives at matches can sometimes create awkward situations.
"The fans I meet everywhere love me," she said. "But when I go to matches now, my friends won't sit with me and move away to other seats because of the cameras."
Even so, she continues to be one of the most recognizable supporters in world soccer.
A former Miss Croatia has blasted "rude" security staff at the World Cup, as they seek to get her to comply with Qatar's modesty rules.
Ivana Knoll, 26 - who has amassed 1.8 million Instagram followers during the soccer tournament - is now a well-known figure during Croatia's World Cup matches, largely due to her outfits.
Per the Independent, the model previously claimed that even with Qatar's strict modesty rules that women are expected to comply with, authorities had given her no trouble despite her revealing clothing.
Ivana has attracted a lot of attention at this World Cup, with fans often asking for selfies - something she is more than happy to oblige. Other attention comes in the form of several men taking photos of the model as she walks down the stairs in the stadium.
However, Qatari businessman Mohammed Hassan Al-Jefairi was quick to explain that not everything was as it seemed. Replying to an image on Twitter, he said: "Just for your info they take a photo not because they like her but because they don't like the way she is miss dressed on regards to our culture."
Ivana has revealed that the authorities' tolerance to her outfits appeared to change last night, as Croatia took on Brazil in a quarter-final clash.
Speaking to the German outlet BILD, she revealed that security put a stop to her usual selfie-taking with fans. She said: "They don't allow the fans to take photos with me or pose for photos down here on the railing. I then asked them why they were so rude."
The security stopping the model from taking selfies wasn't the only shock of the evening, as Croatia went on to knock Brazil out of the tournament, despite the South American team being tipped to take the trophy home.
Neymar opened the scoring for Brazil in the 106th minute after the game ended as a goalless draw in the regulation 90 minutes. Croatia responded with a goal of their own in the 117th minute by Petković, and the game went to penalties.
Croatia was ruthless from the spot, netting all four of their attempts, while Brazil was left in misery after Rodrygo and Marquinhos missed their penalties for the Seleção Canarinho.
Ivana will be thrilled at the result, and will undoubtedly be in attendance at Croatia's semi-final match against Argentina on December 13.
