Gisele Bündchen reveals how she reacted when Tom Brady got his ex-girlfriend pregnant
What else is there to say about the ageless footballing wonder that is Tom Brady? He might still be the darling quarterback of the NFL at the ripe old age of 41, and be married to one of the world's most beautiful women, but Tom Brady's career and personal life have not been without the odd controversy or bump in the road.
We all remember Deflategate, right?
Married to Gisele Bündchen since February 2009, Brady's relationship with the supermodel started under very trying circumstances. The pair started to date in December 2006, but the early days of their relationship were rocked by a bombshell from Brady.
In February 2007, Brady's ex-girlfriend, actress Bridget Moynahan revealed to People magazine that she was three months pregnant with Brady's child. It turned out that Brady and Moynahan had ended their relationship sometime in early December 2006, around the same time that Moynahan fell pregnant.
In short, it was a disaster for the couple: "Two months into our relationship, Tom told me his ex-girlfriend was pregnant. The very next day, the news was everywhere, and I felt my world had been turned upside down," Gisele has revealed in her new book, "Lessons: My Path to a Meaningful Life.
In the book, Giselle does not name Bridget, but it's abundantly clear she's referring to the woman Brady dated from 2004 to 2006. Brady and Bündchen met on a blind date in December 2006, and Brady's son Jack was born in August of 2007, meaning he was conceived right around the time the New England Patriot's star met his now-wife.
Understandably the public furore over the complicated conception took its toll on Giselle, and she admits Bridget's pregnancy "wasn't an easy time" for her personally. Now though the supermodel accepts that Jack, who's now 11, helped her "heart expand" in a way she "didn't know was possible."
"I wanted to be there for Jack and Tom and do whatever I could to create stability in their lives and help them to have a close relationship," she wrote in her memoir, adding that she often refers to Jack as her "bonus child."
Now the couple have two wonderful children of their own, Benjamin, 8, and Vivian, 5 - and the controversies of the past seem to be well and truly behind them. Sadly Brady couldn't wrap up another unprecedented Super Bowl triumph in February against the Philadelphia Eagles, but after the Patriots destroyed the Miami Dolphins 38-7 at the weekend, their season looks set to begin in earnest.
Already labelled as the greatest of all time by pundits and players alike, it remains to be seen whether Brady will return to the pinnacle of the sport. Many of his detractors would like to see a new era of quarterbacks shine on the biggest stage, but with Brady you can never really be sure. Another Super Bowl ring for the GOAT? A distinct possibility.
