Simone Biles has now withdrawn from the final individual all-around gymnastics competition at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic games.

This comes less than 24 hours after it was announced that the US gymnastics trailblazer would not be competing in the women's team all-around gymnastics final.

An official statement from USA Gymnastics was shared on their official Twitter page, reading:

"After further medical evaluation, Simone Biles has withdrawn frmo the final individual all-around competition at the Tokyo Olympic Games, in order to focus on her mental health.

"Simone will continue to be evaluated daily to determine whether or not to participate in next week's individual event finals."

The statement revealed that Jade Carey -  who had the ninth-highest score in qualifications - will take Biles' place in the all-around.

Finally, the statement ends: "We wholeheartedly support Simone's decision and applaud her bravery in prioritizing her well-being. Her courage shows, yet again, why she is a role model for so many."

Per The Independent, Biles spoke to reporters yesterday about how she is "more nervous" performing at this stage of her career.

The four-time Olympic gold medalist said: "I don’t trust myself as much as I used to. I don’t know if it’s age and I’m a little bit more nervous when I do gymnastics. We had a workout this morning. It went ok and then just that five and a half hour wait or something, I was shaking, could barely nap."

Yesterday, the women's all-around final team - consisting of Biles, Suni Lee, Grace McCallum, and Biles' eventual replacement, Jordan Chiles - won silver in the competition.

Biles would later take to Instagram to credit her teammates for "stepping up when she couldn't".

The 24-year-old wrote alongside an image of the four of them: "I’m SO proud of these girls right here. You girls are incredibly brave & talented!

"I’ll forever be inspired by your determination to not give up and to fight through adversity! They stepped up when I couldn’t. thanks for being there for me and having my back! forever love y’all."

Despite the recent withdrawal, Biles still has an opportunity to win gold in the individual vault, floor, bars, and beam events.
