Taylor Swift's ex Joe Alwyn is allegedly still profiting from his relationship with the star thanks to the royalties he's earning from writing on her album.

Now, it's almost been a year since the dreaded day that we found out that the 34-year-old singer had split from her British actor boyfriend.

Entertainment Tonight reported the news of Swift's break up with the 33-year-old on April 8, stating that at the time, a source close to the pair had revealed their separation happened "a few weeks ago."

"The relationship had just run its course. It's why [Alwyn] hasn't been spotted at any shows," the source continued before adding that "they simply grew apart and plan to remain friends."

Swift and Alwyn were first rumored to be dating back in 2016 and the news was seemingly confirmed after a source told PEOPLE that Swift was "very happy" in her relationship.

"He is her rock. Their relationship is mature and wonderful," the source added back when it all started.

As their relationship progressed, the pair started collaborating on music together and Alwyn even received a credit on Swift's Midnights album for the song 'Sweet Nothing.'

Prior to that, the Conversations with Friends actor was credited for his work on her previous albums, Folklore and Evermore under the pseudonym William Bowery.

The former album went on to win a Grammy in 2021 which is the only award Alwyn has ever won for his creative work.

And it seems as though Alwyn is still profiting from his work with the 'Love Story' hitmaker, according to reports.

A source told Life & Style that "Joe is making so much on royalties and returns from [Taylor’s] Eras tour that he doesn’t ever need to worry about money again."

Alwyn was credited to two songs on Folklore - 'Exile' and 'Betty' - and another three songs on Evermore - 'Champagne Problems,' 'Coney Island,' and 'Evermore.'

In addition to that impressive accolade, the Catherine Called Birdy star has reportedly already racked up approximately $2.3 million for Spotify streams alone, but the numbers only continue to increase from Swift's live performances.

Speaking of his collaborative work with his ex, the star told Paper Magazine that it all began when he was "messing around" on the piano with chords that would eventually lead to Swift's hit with Bon Iver, 'Exile.'

"It was completely off the cuff, an accident," he said of the song. "She [Swift] said: 'Can we try and sit down and get to the end together?' And so we did. It was as basic as some people made sourdough."

While the 33-year-old admitted that he's a "terrible singer", he would often belt a tune around the house with Swift, which also led to the creation of the song 'Betty.'

"I’d probably had a drink and was just stumbling around the house," he told the outlet. "We couldn’t decide on a film to watch that night, and she was like, 'Do you want to try and finish writing that song you were singing earlier?' And so we got a guitar and did that."

And it seems as though Swift also enjoyed her songwriting time with Alwyn.

In her documentary, she said: "Joe plays piano beautifully and he's always just playing and making things up and kind of creating things. And 'Exile' was crazy because Joe had written that entire piano part."

More recently, Swift revealed that one of the songs 'Lavender Haze' was inspired by Alwyn and their relationship, explaining to fans on Instagram that the title refers to a feeling that "you’ll do anything to stay there and not let people bring you down off of that cloud."

"Like my relationship for six years, we’ve had to dodge weird rumors, tabloid stuff and we just ignore it. This song is sort of about the act of ignoring that stuff to protect the real stuff," she added.

Swift has since moved on from Alwyn with NFL football player Travis Kelce while the actor has been linked with Emma Laird, though the news of the pair's romance has not been officially confirmed.
