Unless you've been living under a rock, you'll know that Disney is in the process of remaking almost all of its classic movies one by one and turning them into live-action extravaganzas.

Now, news that will undoubtedly delight a lot of people has emerged in Deadline Hollywood: Tom Hanks is in talks to play Geppetto in the live-action remake of Pinocchio.

This comes after Variety reported that the project would be directed by Robert Zemickis back in 2018, making it the latest live-action remake from the movie powerhouse, with previous remakes including  Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King.

If Hanks takes on the role, it would not be the first time that has worked with Zemeckis, with the pair previously joining forces for 1994's Forrest Gump, 2000's Cast Away and 2004's The Polar Express.

The original Pinocchio was released way back in 1940, and it was based on Carlo Collodi's children's novel The Adventures of Pinocchio.

In case your memory needs refreshing, the story of Pinocchio centers on a woodcarver named Geppetto who makes a puppet of a young boy.

The puppet is later brought to life by a fairy, who tells Pinocchio that he can become a real boy if he proves himself to be "brave, truthful, and unselfish."

The script for the remake is being written by Chris Weitz, who will also produce the film with Andrew Miano through their company Depth of Field.

However, before Hanks potentially takes on the role, he will be portraying Colonel Tom Parker in Warner Bros. upcoming Elvis Presley biopic, Elvis.

The film is being shot in Australia, and unfortunately, while filming, Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson caught coronavirus earlier in the year, making them two of the first famous faces to admit they have the virus, but thankfully, they have both made a full recovery since then.
