Will Smith has revealed he once considered suicide at what was a dark moment in his life.

The I Am Legend actor got candid as he discussed his mental health with his family in a new trailer for Will Smith: The Best Shape of My Life, his new YouTube docuseries.

The series follows the actor as he attempts to lose 20lbs in 20 weeks, but he quickly realized that his journey involved working on his inner self far more than he suspected.

"When I started this show, I thought I was getting into the best shape of my life, physically," he says in the trailer. "But, mentally, I was somewhere else. I ended up discovering a whole lot of hidden things about myself."

In one clip in the trailer, Smith can be seen bursting into tears while sitting with his family.

"That was the only time in my life that I ever considered suicide," he said in the trailer, while his daughter Willow listened.

In recent months, Smith has made a number of surprising revelations about his marriage to wife Jada Pinkett Smith and his mental health.

Back in September, the actor confirmed that he and Jada had opened up their marriage to other sexual partners after both realized that they were "miserable".

What's more, he revealed he once wanted to date a "harem" of women - including fellow Hollywood star Halle Berry - when his film career and marriage began to break down.

The actor sought the help of an "intimacy coach" in the midst of a mid-life crisis in a desperate bid to get back on track.

Recalling the conversations he had with his coach to GQ, Will was asked what he would have if he could have anything in the world.

Per Page Six, a "harem of girlfriends" was Will's answer, before specifying Berry and ballet dancer Misty Copeland as two women he'd invite into it.

Watch Will and Jada open up about her 'entanglement' with August Alsina:

At the urging of his coach, Smith spent a session researching the women and planning to contact them.

"After we played it out a little bit, I was like, 'That would be horrific. That would be horrific,'" he told GQ. "I was like, 'Can you imagine how miserable?'"

"What she was doing was essentially cleaning out my mind, letting it know it was okay to be me and be who I was," he went on.

"It was okay to think Halle is fine. It doesn't make me a bad person that I’m married and I think Halle is beautiful. Whereas in my mind, in my Christian upbringing, even my thoughts were sins.

"That was really the process that Michaela worked me through to let me realize that my thoughts were not sins and even acting on an impure thought didn’t make me a piece of s***."

The first episode is set to release on YouTube on November 8, 2021.
