A woman has recently sparked a debate online after admitting that her husband "babysat" their child as a Christmas present to her.
Taking to TikTok, Iyah, AKA @rafal_and_iyah, posted a video in which she stated that her husband's Christmas gift to her last year was "freedom" for "two hours."
In the video, which has amassed over 452,000 views, she told her 842,000 followers: "So, I just got back from the store, and my husband goes, 'Did you enjoy your time? That was the other half of my Christmas gift.'
"I'm like 'Where? What is it?'"
Rafal then interrupts his wife to say: "I babysat for hours, I babysat for hours."
"He says 'Freedom. You were gone for two hours, and I babysat. Your gift was freedom. I love you,' and he kissed me," the 24-year-old mom continued.
"I was home with the baby. The greatest gift of all for a mother," he added before telling Iyah he loves her who just laughs at the response.
Have a look at the video below:Of course, social media users were not pleased with the fact that Rafal referred to looking after his child as "babysitting", alluding to the idea that he was doing his wife a favor despite it being just as much his responsibility too.
"WEAPONIZED INCOMPETENCE and why are you okay with this man’s 'gift' it’s his basic responsibility. Find you a new man AT LEAST for your baby," one user said.
"Ouch... That even hurt me and I have no babies," added another.
A third also referred to it as "weaponized incompetence," before adding: "GROSS" in all caps.
"How lovely, I would love to see more parents babysit their own kids," this user sarcastically commented.
And the comments did not stop there as more and more people saw the video.
"Sending prayers for u sis," this user wrote while another TikToker chimed in saying: "I really hope you guys are able to sit down and discuss that he's not babysitting if it's his kid. that's called parenting. and time away is absolutely needed. it's not a gift but a necessity."
Others questioned whether the couple were just joking around, and thankfully, they were.
After the backlash, Iyah responded to a comment by saying: "Somebody gets it."
She then doubled down on the idea that it was just a little joke, writing: "It's called sarcasm/humor. We're amazed how many people believed we meant it."
Iyah and Rafal use their platform to share about their lives, posting cute snippets of their day as well as tips on how to survive being parents in an age-gap relationship.
The 24-year-old is 21 years younger than her partner, who is 45 years old, and while the pair sometimes get backlash about it, they've forged a community online based on acceptance and having fun!
