Yesterday we learned the news that
Kim Kardashian and
Kanye West's
third child had been born. Kris Jenner was at the hospital for the event along with others from the family, although they weren't there for the actual delivery. Born via an
unnamed surrogate, the newborn came into the world on January 15 at 12:47 am, but what happened next made the whole affair seem even cuter.
"Kanye and I are happy to announce the arrival of our healthy, beautiful baby girl," Kim posted to her website in the official announcement. "We are incredibly grateful to our surrogate who made our dreams come true with the greatest gift one could give and to our wonderful doctors and nurses for their special care."
Kim suffered from various complications with her previous two childbirths for children Saint and North, so decided to use a surrogate this time around. But that doesn't mean she wasn't involved in the birth process at every step of the way.
TMZ reports that Kim Kardashian was in the delivery room to see her newborn's first moments and was even the first person to share direct skin-to-skin contact with the 7 lb 5 oz baby.

Following the delivery, the baby was placed in the immediate care of the parents, who had decided to follow the 'Kangaroo Care' approach. This method sees the mother sharing instant and uninterrupted contact with the child. The contact can last over an hour, with some even going as far as 24 hours, offering both short and long-term benefits to the mother and the child.
Supposedly, the Kangaroo Care approach provides comfort during the vulnerable period, which can lead to improved stability of the heart and breathing rate of the baby, stress and pain reduction, and boosted brain development. In addition to this, it reportedly reduces incidents of postpartum depression and anxiety with both parents.

"The more skin-to-skin [contact] the better. It should ideally start at birth, but is helpful any time," says Dr. Nils Bergman, senior medical superintendent of Mowbray Maternity Hospital.
"Physiology and research provide overwhelming evidence that Kangaroo Mother Care is not only safe but superior to the use of technology such as incubators. Depriving babies of skin-to-skin makes alternative stress pathways in the brain, which can lead to ADD, colic, sleep disorders, among other things."
Kim made the announcement that she and her husband
Kanye West were expecting in September 2017, but she was quick to explain that things aren't as easy as they seem when you're having a child via surrogate.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, she said:
"Anyone that says or thinks it is just the easy way out is just completely wrong. I think it is so much harder to go through it this way, because you are not really in control. And, you know, obviously you pick someone that you completely trust and that you have a good bond and relationship with, but it is still ... knowing that I was able to carry my first two babies and not, you know, my baby now, it's hard for me."
Now that the child is born, the next news we are awaiting is the name of the child. Given the unpredictable names she gave her previous two, it is hard to tell, but we'll likely be finding out in the coming week.
