A female doctor has taken to Instagram to share that people have told her she's "too pretty" to be a doctor.

Earlier this month, Dr. Medina Culver took to the platform to post an inspirational video captioned: "We are constantly surrounded by people telling us what we can’t do. Guess what... stop listening to them. Believe in you.

"Believe in your dreams. Believe in your journey. It's the only one we get so make it count."

The doctor then reeled off all the "reasons I've been told I couldn't be a doctor".

These reasons included not being "smart enough" and not having a high enough GPA.

Dr. Culver also mentioned she was told she was "too pretty" to be a doctor and that she should "use your looks to become successful, not your brain."

In addition, she was told: "As a female, you should focus on building your family and getting married before a career."

But of course, as she mentions at the end of the short video, she "didn't listen to any of them."

Dr. Culver was inundated with support in the comments, with one person writing: "Yes girl!! Thank you for encouraging more females to follow their dreams! I’ll be graduating with a PharmD in the spring and I was also told several of these!"

Another commenter said: "You Rock! I have twin daughters applying to Med/dental school. So proud of them. You are inspiring."

A third wrote: "This Doctor is phenomenal. I adore her and the positive message she is putting out there for aspiring med students. Keep up the great work! "

And the gushing comments just kept flooding in, with yet another person writing: "Yes! Thank you for highlighting that we are allowed to be smart and pretty."

Another said: "Good for you ‼️never listen to negative, just harness it toward positive efforts/results‼️. But you are good looking xoxo."

A different user said: "Agreed!! I was told the GPA/not smart enough lie in terms of becoming a veterinarian too! Now I’ve been a vet for 12 years."

Last October, Dr. Culver posted a similar video in which she revealed her response to being told "you're too pretty to be a real doctor".

"Well, thank you... I am," she says. "Pretty ambitious. pretty hard-working and pretty determined to achieve my dreams."
