Tammy Slaton has hit an upsetting obstacle on her remarkable weight loss journey.
After shedding a jaw-dropping 500 pounds post-bariatric surgery in 2022 and grinding through a grueling 14-month stint in weight loss rehab, Slaton is now facing another hurdle.
Despite her incredible transformation, the TLC star has been told she must wait a bit longer before undergoing skin removal surgery, a procedure critical to her post-weight loss phase.
The surgery is designed to rid patients of excess skin after significant weight reduction, but it seems Tammy's doctors want her to pump the brakes.
In a heartfelt snippet shared on TLC’s Instagram on November 14, Tammy's doctor, Dr. Brad Turner, laid out the timeline.
"With your situation, you're a little over a year out. I think you hit your lowest weight, usually around 18 months," he explained.
He added, emphasizing patience: "OK, I'm definitely not telling you 'no' - I'm just telling you not tomorrow."
Dr. Turner, in a moment of frankness to the cameras, clarified: "Tammy is not currently a candidate for skin removal surgery because she's only about 13 or 14 months out from her weight loss surgery."
The news didn't sit well with Tammy, who was visibly disappointed, refusing to let Dr. Turner examine her further.
The TLC community has rallied behind Slaton, flooding the comment section with messages of encouragement and support.
One fan commented: "Hang in there Tammy. You went through absolute hell and the light is starting to shine in that long tunnel. You are doing great. I am in awe of you."
Another chimed in with understanding, noting: "I understand why. The doctors want her to lose all the weight she wanted to lose. Then do the surgery. They don’t want to do this more than once. It's not good to keep having surgeries on the same places."
As Tammy navigates this waiting period, the support from her fans remains.
"HANG IN THERE TAMMY. YOU GOT THIS YOU'RE DOING GREAT!" one user cheered, echoing the sentiments of many.
This comes after Tammy recently revealed that she now weighs as much as she did in "fourth or fifth grade".
A video shared on TLC’s Instagram page showed Slaton stepping on the scale and weighing 281.2 pounds, which is less than her older brother, Chris Combs.
“Chris said he weighs 284 [pounds]. I now weigh a little less than Chris. That’s mind-blowing,” the 38-year-old said.
She shockingly added that the last time she weighed 281 pounds was when she was "in fourth or fifth grade,” adding: “I’m the baby sister, but I’m not the ‘big’ baby sister no more.”
