Doctor warns about No Nut November side effect nobody talks about with challenge starting tomorrow

With No Nut November due to start tomorrow, a doctor has warned of side effects that you may not have considered.

If you're unfamiliar with the practice, No Nut November (NNN) typically involves people abstaining from self pleasure for the month.

While it's meant to test self-discipline, there are apparently some side effects that nobody takes into consideration.

Doctor issues warning about No Nut November

Dr Rena Malik has taken to YouTube where she has revealed a possible side effect of taking part in the viral challenge.

As the doctor refers to it, "blue balls" could cause some pain in the genital area.

Dr Malik explains that when one becomes aroused, blood flows to the genital area and increases blood flow to the testicles.

M*sturbating is a way of relieving this tension, but when it comes to NNN, the pressure isn't being releaved at all.

The doctor reveals that it isn't dangerous, but it can actually be quite a painful experience.

Another side effect, Dr Malik warned, is pelvic floor dysfunction caused by semen retention.

This can cause pain if the pelvic floor can't go through the full range of motion, and it can cause a number of issues such as bowel movement problems, and difficulties with erections.

However, it's not all doom and gloom...

Could Skipping Sex Actually Boost Your Health?

Supporters of the challenge often point to studies that suggest temporary abstinence could positively impact hormone levels and sperm quality.

A 2003 study involving 28 men found that abstaining from sexual activity for seven days resulted in a 145.7% increase in testosterone levels compared to baseline.

Testosterone plays a vital role in mood, muscle development, and sexual health.

Although this particular study was later retracted in 2021 due to overlap with a 2002 Chinese publication, other findings support similar conclusions.

One 2019 study indicated that one to four days of abstinence can enhance sperm count, movement, and overall volume.

So if going 30 days feels like too much, even a short break may offer some health perks.

Why Some Doctors Are Sounding the Alarm

Despite the potential benefits, not everyone is sold on the idea of prolonged abstinence. Some doctors warn that going without sexual release could backfire, particularly for those already dealing with anxiety or performance issues.

Dr. Alexis Missick, an erectile dysfunction expert with UK Meds, told The Daily Star: “M*sturbation actually has beneficial effects on testosterone levels and libido, almost like a positive advocate loop.”

She added: “M*sturbating can delay the time to ejaculation, almost like building stamina and routine. It can also reduce psychological issues such as low self-esteem and performance anxiety, which can increase the chance of erectile dysfunction.”

In her view, cutting off all sexual activity could make conditions like premature ejaculation or erectile dysfunction even worse. She recommends that anyone facing sexual health concerns focus on reducing stress, keeping a healthy weight, and seeking mental health support if needed.
